| Uthrac12-18-07, 09:24 AM | I have had several new players join the RPGA, and love seeing new players - especially those not heavily into D&D - at my tables. My players have had a great deal of difficulty playing the Fastplay-7 characters. Often there are feats, items, and class abilities that are not completely defined on the character sheet - those that are not part of the core rules. (My group included the Knight, Spellthief, and Warforged Wizard.) This lead to a great deal of confusion at the table, as these players looked to me to tell how their non-core items/feats/spells/class abilities work. (I don't have all of the expansion books to even know where to begin to look these things up!) The brief description on the current sheets raised more questions than answers. Even worse, there are no "basic" character choices in the 7's group. New players could not choose a simple Fighter or Rogue. While I appreciate the richness non-core classes bring to the game, I'd like to see some basic choices for the player with little D&D personal experience. When looking ahead to the Fastplay 10's (10th level is not easy to play), please consider the following: • Focus on core. This gives the players who bring a fastplay or "take one for the team" the responsibility for their character abilities. I don't mind being responsible for knowing the core rules, but it helps when players can fully research their character before coming to a game. • Even new players get excited about doing something out of the ordinary! For any non-core additions to these characters, please include a complete explanation of how abilities/items work. Please view this not as a complaint - as I am grateful for the free resources provided - but as constructive feedback. I know that the writers want to continue to provide quality materials to all groups. I hope this helps in that regard. Sincerely, Dan Anderson Covenant of Light GM Crimson Codex Player |

We are aware of these problems, and the new fastplay characters that are not tied to a specific faction will be basic, using only core rules (PHB and DMG). The two fastplays for each faction may contain content from non-core rules, but if they do they will have the necessary information to play them without the extra sourcebooks. Thanks for the feedback, and thank you for taking the time to DM and play in the campaign. Shawn Crimson Codex Factionmaster |
