Table CS-6 in the v1.0 of the Campaign Standars sets the maximum GP value of any given limited item in the character's inventory. Is this the price paid for the item or the book price?

A character could craft a +1 sword for less than 2,300gp the DMG says the weapon should cost. Which value gets checked against table CS-6?

Consumable items are x5 cost in most cases. Is the x5 cost checked against table CS-6 or is the base cost checked?

I hope some one has some insight. Thanks,

The maximum value is compared to the book value to determine if you may put the item in your equipment list.

It is a little unbalancing to have a character spend all of his money on a single item, even more so if he can effectively double that amount by crafting the item himself. Do you really want to see all the mid-level wizards running around naked except for their staves of the archmagi? :D

Ok, so let me get this straight...a level 3 scroll with an expensive material compnent...say Animate Dead...normally costs 625. For the purposes of Xen'drake it costs 3125 because of the x5 thing (assuming you are just straight buying it, no crafting or anything).

So, from what I read above, it would seem that you can buy the scroll anytime you:

A.) Have a EV of 3125+

And...

B.) Have a Class level of 3rd or higher (because then you have a level gold piece limit of 1350, which is more than 625, which is the book price).

See...I thought it was that you had to have a level gold piece limit of more than 3125 to buy the scroll. That would mean you couldn't buy the scroll till level 5 or later (4500 level gold piece limit).

So which is right?

You use the campaign cost to determine if it is below the gold piece limit for your level.
