Hi, I was helping my DM to do a reporting after the completion of a session as he was at my house.

Basically we screwed up by hitting 'validate all results' before we finished typing the information, and got it reported. We never got to even the MCQ sections.

I noted that NONE of the characters got their EVs / report.

Is there any way to fix this? Basically we would like to request that the reporting be deleted, and we try again?

Before you contact Mr. Tulach, first go through the other avenues. Chris is very busy, especially this time of year, and the other avenues are specifically there for that purpose.

Thanks!

True. I shouldn't have suggested that as a first alternative.

Get the Senior GM to email rpgasanctioning@wizards.com.

I'd also suggest contacting Customer Services via wizards.custhelp.com as they appear to be more proactive in keeping you informed of what's going on.

As Shawn says, though, the RPGA staff are going to be very busy this month and I'm not sure how much spare 'capacity' there'd be for getting these things sorted out.

Considering the Level Bump, I hope they have at least assigned a few people to handy these issues since nothing can be done once the DB updates after July 29th.

Not that I would suggest going around the system or anything, but could you reorder the adventures and report, since nobody got any credit for playing the games?

My Eyes of the Lich Queen Part 1 was reported incorrectly, (actually 4 of 6 players had trouble. These things happen) I filed an appeal July 15th (and received absoultely no response) and thought I would follow pedr's advice. When I tried I received this:

Internal Server Error:
Server id: 1->17
The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.
Please contact the site's support team and inform them of the time of the error and what operation
you were performing when the error occurred.

Thank you for your patience.

I even went to www.wizards.com and clicked on help (http://wizards.custhelp.com/) and got the same response

I understand that Mr Tulach has to be an insanely busy person, and I do not wish to bother him.

I post all this for one reason. It would be very nice if there were a way for a senior GM to go back and edit a past game. Mistakes happen. If I make one, I would like to fix it myself. Perhaps games played in the past 30 days? Since games are tracked already through GM activity it seems within the realm of possibility.

Not that I would suggest going around the system or anything, but could you reorder the adventures and report, since nobody got any credit for playing the games? This is unlikely to work. If you have entered a valid table (one GM and at least four players) then the system will have flagged those RPGA members as having played the adventure and will ignore subsequent reports of them playing it - or, more precisely, generate some kind of flag which may or may not be acted upon by the RPGA. Unfortunately the only 'solution' is to have someone physically manipulate the database to enter the correct information.

I do find the reports of database problems disturbing - particularly when the report is that some players/characters are updated and some are not as this seems like a very odd error to occur and I can't figure out what might cause it. Now I'm certainly no database programmer but it simply seems 'wrong' and suggests a serious underlying problem.

Incidentally I can access the customer help system via the link above, and get to the 'email us' tab and log in. Perhaps the error is when you attempt to send a message - I can't check that as have no message to send! If that's failing, emailing rpgasanctioning@wizards.com and possibly even considering phoning Wizards might be the way forward. If they create a character tracker, their customer support people should provide support for it, in my opinion!

When I click on the link above I get the Internal Server Error. It is titled RightNow Technologies Hosting and http://wizards.custhelp.com/cgi-bin/wizards.cfg/php/enduser/std_alp.php For some reason I was under the impression that rpgasanctioning@wizards.com was no longer working and everything was supposed to go through

I believe that most of us had the wrong faction reported. My Crimson Codex character was reported instead of my Blackwheel Company character. The two players who played Crimson Codex characters did not seem to have a problem with that. :)

I am not sure about Iseelba, he played his Covenant of Light character and I believe he said nothing was reported.

Correct. I'm still crossing my fingers that I can get that mod reported for my character before the end of the month (when everything gets really crazy with the database.)

Have you tried accessing the help system from a different computer? Or emailing someone else and getting them to send the email for you - they'd have to create an account using your email address and create a password for you, but then the replies from customer service would come to the email address used to register and I am pretty sure that once customer services have replied you can then remain in contact with them using your email client not the web-based system. The web-based system simply means that an identified person is assigned your problem and can track the progress of it, which is actually worth a few hoops being jumped through, I think; at least here you know that someone has received and read the email, unlike when the RPGA is emailed directly - due to the low staffing levels I think that the RPGA staff tend not to reply to emails unless necessary as their time is better spent either fixing the problem or doing all the other stuff they're responsible for - which is frustrating but understandable!

It's also worth the affected players filing an appeal using the system in the personal information section of the members' pages - though again this suffers from the lack of acknowledgement issue.

Just as a bit of information (as I used the rpgasanctioning@wizards.com address last night): Tim Kelly, the RPGA Event and Organizer Coordinator, answered my email within 30 minutes of sending it, and provided the response I needed. So someone besides Chris T. and Ian is reading the mail! ;)

I guess I'll try sending an email there too; hadn't heard anything from the appeal submitted at the start of the week.

Re-ordering postively does not work.

This is quite sad, as we have already submitted part 2.

I sent 2 e-mails to RPGA sanctioning as well as appeal form, still no response.

As I've said before, I've had better luck getting things done if I contact customer services (http://wizards.custhelp.com) as someone actually picks up the case and at the least makes sure it's passed on to someone at HQ.

Thanks for the suggestion, I've e-mailed customer services.

Hope I dun have to resort to having to PM and irritate all the moderators... :P

If you ever have a reporting issue, the Senior GM for the event should contact rpgasanctioning@wizards.com. Also, contacting Customer Service is a great idea, since they log everything and faithfully pass on emails within 1 day of receipt. Keep in mind that this is the Senior GM's duty, not the players or the GM at the table (unless he/she was the Senior GM, of course). The reason why we have the Senior GM be the point-of-contact is that most of the time, we invalidate the event, and have the Senior GM go back into his/her account, make the changes, and validate the event again. If a player contacts us, then we have to spend valuable time tracking down and getting a response from the Senior GM before we're able to resolve anything.

The reporting appeals email goes to Tim, who works for us on resolving reporting issues. Tim does get a deluge of emails, and does work for the DCI as well, so his time is split between various tasks. Occasionally, Tim will answer an email right away, but most requests take 1-2 weeks to process. Receiving an answer within a few days is usually rare.

Now, the level kick is coming soon, and Tim will be processing all reporting appeals for Xen'drik before we actually do the kick, provided they are reported no later than August 6. If you've filed an appeal because of a reporting issue, it will get looked at. If you're the Senior GM for the event, file an appeal, and it has taken longer than 2 weeks to get the issue corrected, you may PM me and I'll take a look at it.

Right now, I'm incredibly busy. I'm trying to ensure that all the deadlines for all the good stuff at Gen Con are met, and there's very little time for me to do things like check appeals. However, if you've gone through the proper channels, waited 2 weeks, and received no response or noted no change in the reporting, please PM me. I will ensure that your request moves to the top of the stack to be investigated.

Thanks, Chris. Appreciate it.
I'm neither the senior GM nor the GM of the event, but I'm the usual game organiser for this group and I appreciate the effort you are taking to help the community.

Thank you Mr.Tulach.
I'm afraid we may have over-reported the problem through uncertainty as to which method was actually effective. 2 weeks seems an awfully long time but I do understand that you're very busy. On the bright side it's the first time I've had to contend with a database problem :)

Sorry if we've over-filled your inbox -it's only because we care ;)

Our 2 weeks isn't up but also won't be up unti lafter the 29th. I've e-mailed the GM asking him to send in an e-mail since I'm not sure he did so initially.

I think their problems of simply having too much e-mail, are being excabated as people were not aware of the timing required for processing till now, and we have been sending in multiple requests via multiple channels because there was no response.

Thank you Mr.Tulach.

Got the e-mail from Tim, but he requested to have my event code. Is there a way I can get it for him? I can't find it anywhere. My DM deleted his notification e-mail already...
Herrbard

07-28-07, 09:08 AM
If it got reported and shows up for one of your characters, you can find the event number by doing the following:

1. Log in to your RPGA account.
2. Click on Character Tracker.
3. Click on the Faction (character) it was reported to.
4. Click on the name of your character.

It should be there in the first column under Convention Code. This is assuming that it got reported, just incorrectly, and your character got no gold or experience. If that is not the case, I know of no other way to find the number.

(This is why I keep a log file of all my orders, just in case something like this happens. Luckily, I've only run across the problem once.)

The four of us who had the wrong factions reported did get everything straightened out.

Timlagor contacted the GM who sent the appeal and we all have the correct info now.

When you filed your appeals did you get confirmation e-mails?

I attempted to file an appeal this weekend and the system states that I'll get a confirmation, but I haven't received it.

I'm worried that my appeal will be lost to the ether. . . .

I never received a confirmation email of any kind. It turns out as a player I shouldn't have been making an appeal, so that may not be helpful.

Yay: Finally the game was deleted, so we can make corrections.

Boo: We can't order modules anymore, so the only thing that happened was that the PCs lost 4 reward points.

If it was invalidated, the GM should be able to go in and revalidate it today.

You should re-report everything and include everything about when you initailly reported. I was told by HQ that all reporting issues they recieved have been fixed.
JJeff

08-13-07, 08:42 PM
I think the problem is that he doesn't have an option for him to re-report. The game disappeared from his list of games and he doesn't know where to go to re-report it (neither do I since I never got into such an issue). I assume he re-reports it from his member's page?

Level bump has come and gone, Gen Con has come and gone.

And nothing was done about the error still.

Oh well. I've given up.

I am not holding high hopes for 4.0 campaigns (if any) if the senior GM is unable to make changes to rectify problems in the database.

Meanwhile we're just adding 3k EV to our characters.
