Is it possible to play a kensai in this campaign?

That's in the Complete Warrior or Complete Divine, right?

Since those books are Limited, yes you could - but you'll have to expend your first three Expansion Slots on the class. :)

Since it's a prestige class, you wouldn't even have to use your first three slots; just three slots when you take the class.
Of course, that class is terrible for a melee combatant, so why bother?

Same reason that I play elf swashbucklers, because of coolness factor  . And not to mention that there are other types of encounters beyond melee combat.

Yes, the class has middle attack progression. It gets made up for by gaining a magic weapon cheaper and that nuts power surge ability, and an excuse for the character to go on long soliloquies about his ideal.

Personally, I'm happy that players pick more challenging classes. I'd quit playing D&D if all the tables were nothing but warlocks, dragon shamen, beguilers, and clerics. But that's just me. :D

Yeah, but there's a difference between playing a character that is a role-playing challenge (which is fun), vs. playing a character that can't even fulfill its role in the party (which means your whole table takes a hit).

Nobody's going to hold it against you, you're just trying to be helpful, after all!

The Kensai can be useful, but it is a fairly narrow class thats not for every combat character. Its enhancement ability can be very useful for monks ore characters with natural weapons, and its ohter abilties can be formidable if yuo have a substantial Concentration modifier.

Looks like you all got it wrong. Also, he phrased the question wrongly. I know; he asked me too. The question is:

"How can I fufill the special requirements for the Kensai PrC, if possible?"

Like most PrC classes with special requirements that are not tied to specific rules items (like Base Attack Bonus, certain feats, etc.), the requirement for a Kensai can be fulfilled through a DM's Mark adventure. As the requirement for a Kensai is to swear an oath of service, such an event could be the basis for the entire adventure:

Chosen Master: "I will gladly accept your fealty, young Whacksthingswithstick-mon, if you can prove yourself worthy. I have a problem none of my other retainers can handle."

So talk with your GM and get a DM's Mark adventure written to handle the need. Then just record the Oath of Service in your Adventure Journal and have fun roleplaying!
