Level Bump Rumor [Archive] - Wizards Community

I heard a nasty rumor this evening from my gaming group (we played Mere of Shattered Souls, and loved it). The rumor was:

When the level bump to 4 happens, everyone at level 4 or lower will be set to the beginning of 4th level xp wise. So, for example, if I am 750 xp away from 5th, when the level bump is implemented, I'll be back at the beginning of 4th (actually losing xp).

My source (who I'm not extremely confident in his information) assures me that it happened this way in Mark of Heroes. Will it happen in this way in XE? Say it ain't so!

Let me answer this way. As far as I know, this is not the case. You should never lose XP as part of the level bump, only gain xp. That said, the only person who can answer this question with 100% certainty is the person in charge of the database, and whomever he answers to. Since I am neither of those, I am just answering with how I think it will work.

I'm still hoping they fix my character from Gen Con so I have the chance to possibly beat the level bump. But I'm starting to get the feeling it's not going to get fixed and I'll get screwed out of x.p. and gold I've earned.

Assuming the level bump goes according to plan, loss of xp/gp shouldn't happen. The reason it happened in MoH was because they did not have the brief stop in play/reporting like we are doing. Because they didn't stop reporting during the level bump update, this caused problems for the MoH which caused everyone to reset to the minimum. If all goes as planned, this shouldn't happen to the XE database.

Thanks for clarifying that - I'll let my group know they've got nothing to worry about (hopefully :D )

So I really tried.

I played:

Blackwheel 1, Blackwheel 2, BW Dms mark 1, Well of Woe (results not in yet), and then assume I play BW 3 and Expedition 2 (planning it for wedesday if I'm lucky...)

Will I be any better off gold or XP wise than someone brand new at D&DXP? Will I be ahead at all?

Help me out here...

I don't mean lose them literally. But round 3 of Well of Woe is still showing on my Covenant character when it should be on my Cabal character. All I'm saying is I expect them to tell me after the bump that those x.p., gold, and story objects don't matter any more cause we bumped you up. If they would fix it like they said they would I would have played all 3 faction mods, all 3 Dm marks, well of Woe 3 rounds, and Mere of shattered Souls, which should put me above the bump.

In terms of XP and GP, I can't really say much. However, a player who's been playing since his first faction adventure compared to a new player playing after the level bump will have a one major and significant difference; the older player will have all his story objects (granted he didn't scrap his character at the level bump).

I know that I may have the same XP and GP as a new player who joins the Crimson Codex after the level kick, but he won't be able to boast about his story objects, since he has none (yet).

I don't know about other's experience, but in Mark of Heroes when they hit the 10th level level bump, I had more than the gold of the bump and leveled after the very next mod, whereas others who played the same mod with me did not. I would, therefore, assume that my exp total was higher than the min for 10th level, so that I earned enough for 11th right away.

Yes. Only mildly in terms of XP, but in terms of GP quite a bit. Don't forget the added bonus of accumulated story objects, exposure, and knowledge. If you've done BWC 1, 2, & 3 you can get a relatively significant bonus to your financial resources from story object alone. You may also be able to add certain things to your adventure journal that grant you a bit of an edge when dealing with other factions. Also, all BWC story objects are designed to be useful, cumulatively, in almost all following adventures. They can grant you a pretty substantial upgrade over characters starting fresh at level 4.

Considering the major snafu that kicked off the campaign... you can anticipate now that the event schedule is fully under our control, future situations will see a bit more of a GP/XP "lead" for players that cram everything in. We've coordinated it more precisely, you might say.

cool.

What I'm also kinda hoping is that someone who plays 1 mod might not expect a boost, but somone who plays 60-70% of the stuff could at least expect something more than normal. Sure, the 100% should get something, but I'm trying to look out for the common man here :D

That is of course if they fix your character like they said they would.

My wife played all the CoL scenarios and DM's Marks plus the four rounds of Expeditions. She's still level four, but she has over seven grand in cash.

That means she is ahead on both xp and gp.
