| MysticRhythms07-07-06, 08:59 AM | I realize that Well of Woe is intended for first level characters and I have no issues with that, but I have myself signed up for all of the second faction modules. Those modules are designed to run after GenCon and from the blurbs I see, it appears they are optimized for 2nd level characters. Because of the nature of Campaign Play, we normally wouldn't be allowed to level during a con, so I'm wondering if this will cause issue to those of us who really want to play those second faction modules but may be saddled with 1st level characters. Hopefully this isn't a concern and people have thought of this, but if they haven't, I wanted to mention it now while we have some five weeks befor the convention. Maybe those folks who complete Well of Woe can be given a temporary boost to EV or maybe even character level just for the con? Or maybe it just won't be an issue. |

Think of it as playing an APL 2 LG adventure with 1st level characters. Sure, it might be kinda tricky, but it ought to be very doable. With the level bump system, each adventure out should be playable by a table of brand new characters. It will probably be plenty more challenging for them compared to 2nd levels with more EV, but if they're balanced and smart players, they should pull through. Now, if that's wrong, let me know. I don't claim to know anything design-wise about this campaign; i'm just extrapolating from MoH. |

So the second faction modules will support 1st level characters who have not yet leveled, as well as players who may have leveled due to their play schedules. No worries. People are not penalized (in terms of rewards or access) for being higher or lower than the "optimized" level. Shawn Crimson Codex Factionmaster Guy |
| MysticRhythms07-07-06, 02:47 PM | I wasn't worried about it from an access concern or a "we won't get as much loot" concern as I was from a "can we actually finish a mod designed for level 2 characters?" concern. I know that in LG you have APL 2 which is designed to cover levels 1-3 but most times an LG table full of level 1's (which all of us should be at that time) will have a hard time doing an APL 2 module. I jsut hope the mods are scaed appropriately for htose of us who won't be advancing until after the con. |

The mods are supposed to be for varying levels but sometimes from what I've *heard* the mods are very hard at the regular level for the campaign. But then sometimes the players at the table are lower level then the module level. It's kinda up to the DM to adjust the level of the module within the framework of the module itself. When I've DM'd LGR and MOH, I've tried to make sure the players had a good time without *softballing* the module or TPKing the party. Mike |
| MysticRhythms07-10-06, 03:10 PM | Yeah. I hope the judges at GenCon are aware enough to realize that many of us who will be playing at the con will be playing at level 1. Maybe event treasure will help make this a little easier on us. |
| smerwin2907-10-06, 03:26 PM | Maybe I wasn't clear in my previous post. The mods running at GenCon are tiered to handle 1st-level characters. Each mod has an "optimized" level, and then instructions to the judge for tiering the mod to different levels. There are also instructions at the beginning of the mods for how to figure out what "average party level" to use. |
