Will the character wealth follow the wealth-by-level guidlines in the DMG (i.e. 5,400gp for a 4th-level character)? Do we add our starting gold value to that to get our total funds available? For characters that have a level adjustment, do we then only get the wealth of a 3rd-level-character (i.e. 2,700gp)? That seems a pretty steep penalty for the relatively minor benefits of these alternative races! I'm also still struggling a bit with the concept of the expansion slots. It is my understanding that a magic item can only be purchased if it's on your expansion slot-- so a 4th level character can have at most 4 different kinds of magic items? If you put a +1 ring of protection on your expansion list, does that mean you then have to use another expansion slot to upgrade it to +2? Can you use broader categories, like "+1 weapon", or do you have to use separate slots to get a +1 sword and a +1 bow? Can you retool any of the items that you put on your expansion list? --Eloiwyn |

Do we add our starting gold value to that to get our total funds available? That's the most likely scenario. Yes, you get to add starting gold to that value. For characters that have a level adjustment, do we then only get the wealth of a 3rd-level-character (i.e. 2,700gp)? That seems a pretty steep penalty for the relatively minor benefits of these alternative races! At the current time, that is how it will be figured. Assume that it will remain that way unless you hear otherwise. I'm also still struggling a bit with the concept of the expansion slots. It is my understanding that a magic item can only be purchased if it's on your expansion slot-- so a 4th level character can have at most 4 different kinds of magic items? Can you use broader categories, like "+1 weapon", or do you have to use separate slots to get a +1 sword and a +1 bow? Can you retool any of the items that you put on your expansion list? Any items that are unlimited can be purchased without needing to be placed into an expansion slot. So you can freely purchase anything from the PHB, DMG, or ECS as long as it is below the value cap for your level. You do not need to put normal magic weapons, rings of protection, etc. on your expansion list. Shawn Crimson Codex Guy |

I'd been assuming that (at least at the database side) the level bumps would work the same in Xen'Ex as they did in MoH. In that campaign, at the level bump the 'Equipment Value' of each character was bumped to a particular figure (I can't remember what the 4th level figure was but it was close to the wealth-by-level guidelines). You then added starting gold and any profession bonuses to that to figure out how much you had to spend. In short, though, until that figure's announced on the RPGA site or the database is updated at Winter Fantasy you won't know exactly what that figure is. There weren't many LA characters in MoH, but those who did exist seemed to use the same equipment value (EV) as anyone else. There was no recognition by the database that the character had an LA - it reported the character's level as 4 after the first bump, just as for non LA PCs, and simply expected the player to subtract the LA from that. There wasn't any indication that the character ought to have less EV - and that would be a very significant limitation which I believe would be to add an additional penalty to LA characters over and above the ones from the core D&D rules. |

My level 10 "default" slot has 45,000gp at level 10. That compares to 5,400, 19,000, and 49,000 for the DMG guidelines. |

Because LA characters have the same amount of xp as a regular character I'd assume we'd be getting gold for our xp and not for the adjustment in our level. It only makes sense because if you play all of the modules prior to winter fantasy you'll be collecting roughly the same amount of gold as a non-LA character in the same party. |
