However, in the Eberron Campaign setting, there is no mention of this ability (though everything else matches up). Which are we playing by? |
| Marcus Majarra04-12-07, 12:35 PM | Sanity rules are variant rules presented in the SRD by virtue of practically everything in Unearthed Arcana belonging in the SRD. Sanity rules are not used in Xen'drik Expeditions, so you should defer to the ECS definition of the Madness domain instead of any other (save maybe that of the Spell Compendium, since it's more recent). Just so you know, the domain spells are the same; only the granted power is different: You subtract 1 from all Wisdom-based skill checks and Will saves. However, once per day, you can act and see with the clarity of true madness: Add one-half your level to a single Wisdom-based skill check or Will save. You must choose to use this benefit before the check or save is rolled. |
| Diablo0504-12-07, 12:55 PM | It is different from Sanity rules. You only get an insanity score when you have the madness domain, and it is equal to half your class level. This is not only used to determine spell DCs, but it is also the number subracted from your wisdom based rolls (or added to it when you use your moment of clarity once per day). I dont have the Eberron book in front of me, but I know it applied the same negative modifier to your rolls. Don't remember for sure if they refered to it as an insanity score or not... But, it is completely different from the Cthulu-esque Sanity rules |
| Marcus Majarra04-12-07, 01:13 PM | Well, the insanity score is not a part of the more recent publications of the Madness Domain. The description of the granted power I supplied above is that of both the ECS and the Spell Compendium. I've been reading through the SRD and printed books, and here's what I've learned: the SRD Madness Domain is a legacy item hailing from Deities and Demigods, a 3.0 book that made its way into the SRD by virtue of adding the divine rules to the document. This domain was first revised in the Complete Divine and its definition has not changed since (I believe the domain was also printed in the ECS, Lords of Madness, and the Spell Compendium). |
