| heirodule11-07-07, 12:59 AM | Shouldn't there be some? Did Xendrik die or something? |
| smerwin2911-07-07, 07:30 AM | At the RPGA Members' Chat last night, Chris said the Lich Queen adaptations would be up this week, and the new XE adventures would be up next week. Xen'drik is not dead. Shawn Crimson Codex Guy |
| Garden_State_Gamer11-08-07, 04:43 PM | but it's certainly taken a good punch to the gut. |
| Mherduwynn11-08-07, 09:54 PM | *laughs* Punch to the gut? Not hardly. Things may have been a bit delayed but we have so much in store and so much coming out soon (not to mention the multiple play opportunities already available) that Xen'drik Expeditions is going to be around for a while to come. Soon you will have new free adventures to play and enjoy! Take care, |
| Uthrac11-09-07, 03:26 PM | Soon you will have new free adventures to play and enjoy! Hooray!!! :D |
| Skerrit11-10-07, 01:38 PM | I spoke with HQ about this yesterday and the next faction/DM's Mark should be up this coming week (prolly beginning of the week). |

Soon you will have new free adventures to play and enjoy! Take care, I hate to admit it, but I'm seeing a decline in XE. Here are my concerns: 1) My local XE tables last year at this time were running about 2 full tables per game (12 players). That's a lot of demand for us. This year, we are struggleing to get a single table of four players. 2) This past weekend was one of the big RPGA cons here in Austin (MillenniumCon). Last year, we ran 7-8 tables of XE. It was a blast! This year, we had four XE tables run, and that was mostly because there were no LG intro games running, so we got all of the new players. (To be honest, that was the best part of this con for me--getting to start out some new players in the hobby and see their excitement!) 3) Heck, even look at the activity of these message boards. Last year at this time, the posts were much more frequent. Right now, three of the four faction boards haven't been posted to in the past month or two. The main XE board gets a few posts per week, but not as much as we were getting a year ago. To me, all of these things indicate a decline in XE. I'm not sure why. I'll throw out some ideas though: 1) Fourth edition is coming out. Maybe that's the reason, but I don't think so. I haven't met a gamer yet who has left his existing campaign due to 4th Edition coming out. 2) LG is ending and everyone wants to play that while they still can. Maybe. There usually isn't a lot of cross over between LG and XE players in my area, but the LG numbers seem to be slightly smaller as well. 3) This is just an isolated event in my area, and I'm reading too much into it. Boy, I hope so! It's bad news for me, but better news for the campaign. 4) HQ isn't getting mods out in time. This is a complaint for me, but I'm not seeing it effecting getting local tables to make. I just don't think this would drive off new players. The release schedule has/will make it hard for the XE regulars to play all the games since there's only 2.5 months of play time for this next set of 11 mods; between the holidays and regular life interruptions, it will be very tough to get the next set of mods in. I know all of the FMs are busy, but I wish that the process from turning in the mods to getting HQ to post them was shorter. That's another topic. 5) All of the hobby is experiencing this slowdown. I certainly hope not. I'm seeing fine local gaming shops close down, and others shops struggle. I really hope we aren't seeing a slow down in the hobby... The only thing I can think of to do is to continue to support local shops and cons... 6) Something else I haven't thought of? Probably... One thing (IMO) I know that the problem isn't, is not enough involvement from the factionmasters. They have helped XE along to be a much better campaing than Green Regent or MoH were. So many of the complaints from the last couple of Campaigns were answered and fixed with XE, and I think the FMs do a great job (so thanks). I don't want to start up a flame war or anger anyone, I just want to express my concerns and get them out there. Maybe someone can help with the issues I'm seeing. I really wish there were more XE in my area... --Steven |
| JJeff11-12-07, 08:17 PM | I have been maintaining interest in XE and all, but I can't get new players in. All of them go over to LG... But, yes, unless there's a major push or hype on XE, I think the drive to play is kinda dying down... |
| warfteiner11-12-07, 11:33 PM | Sadly, I think a lot of it has to do with two things: 1.) Too long between posted/ official adventures. GenCon saw the -7 modules, and we loved them (except Test of Mettle - the first encounter alone... yuck!). 90 days later we're discussing the possibility of the -8s being posted... but have yet to see them. 2.) Mandatory levels for adventures. As much as I loathe Living Greyhawk I have to admit that the scalable adventure format allows for more players. I have some local friends that were excited to play XE, but when they finished their Codex-7 module they all agreed that even the setting was very cool, they would not play a mid-level character as a starting point again. Please please please let the future Living and Expeditions stuff be scalable! The Factionmasters have been pretty decent folks, I think. Just some wonky rules and setup issues. |
| Garden_State_Gamer11-13-07, 05:57 PM | I concur with the above statements -- My regulars are not showing any interest in the game, compared to the several marathon sessions we had leading up to the 7th level kick. It's not to say I don't appreciate the effort put forth on the mods written thusfar, but the current presentation and update schedule gives the impression that it's been abandoned for seemingly bigger and better things. |

I'm not seeing any reaction to the game/update schedule from what I can tell. For instance, one of our regular players had to start travelling with work, another moved away, a third deployed to Iraq, and so on... Many of our regulars are still excited and interested in the game. We've complained about not having games to play, then having 11 to play in two months, but I don't think that explains the drop off of our tables. One person had a conflict with one of the recent mods and stopped playing in that faction, but that's it. At the same time, we aren't seeing the new players we used to. And I'm still not sure why... --Steven |
| Som-pee-ta-lay11-15-07, 03:01 PM | For us the main reason is that the DM had a huge restructure in his life and so hasn't been available, however he said he can do it again, so hopefully something can happen soon. However, that really long downtime really does screw up the momentum. I think our DM is going to have to be pretty proactive to get a table round up at this point. I and others might have stepped into the vacuum back at the end of the summer, but the lack of material just gummed everything up. As for LG, our area just dropped it like a rock. It was interesting to see around 10-12 people all just come to the same conclusion ("Why bother anymore?") and just step away from the game. I don't think anyone found the Greyhawk setting itself so compelling as to want to see how it comes to an end. People are excited about Living FR though. I think 4th edition has also let the wind out of the sales a bit in general for D&D around here. A lot of people just look at 3.5 as dead, so why bother thinking about builds or buying books when something cool and shiny is about to be released. For myself I certainly would have liked them to keep it a complete secret and then at Gen-con next year just say, "oh, here is fourth edition!" and release all three books right then and there. Not a realistic expectation of course, but I've grown tired of build-up of any kind in our culture. In the end with XE gummed up and LG in a rout I picked up the Star Wars Saga book and we've been playing that for the last couple of months. Lots of fun! If this is a kind of an intro to 4th edition then next year at this time should be great for D&D. |
| artiephesus11-16-07, 07:23 PM | Any word on the new mods (now that it's the end of this week)? I just want to put in the word that I LOVE the non-scaled adventures and level bumps. It has totally saved my gaming group's ability to play together. We'd been playing in one campaign that was scaled 1-13, and the people who got behind didn't want to play any more, because they felt like they could never catch up. The level bump strategy--scaling only to four levels, max--has been *great* for our group, and I hope that the D&D campaigns continue to use it! As for the slow down--in my area it has happened less in Xen'drik than in the other campaigns. LKoK got hit pretty badly out here when 4e was announced. I've heard other places that everything, from LKoK to LG to Xen'drik, slowed down drastically when the announcement went out. So I'm mostly blaming the 4e announcement for the current turn out woes (as that seems to be when the shift occurred). I'm glad the folks at WotC gave us a big head's up, but I'm sad it seems to have affected the Living play this way. |
| bertman411-17-07, 08:18 PM | I'd like to say that as a GM and a Player, I really enjoy the D&D Campaigns. As a GM, I enjoy the ease with which a module can be prepped. Instead of worrying about six different sets of stat blocks (for each APL), I can concentrate on telling the story. As a player, I enjoy the level bumps, allowing me to try out new characters and builds. If something isn't working, I can retire a PC and start a new one at the same level. That is gold. Bertman |
| Butterface11-26-07, 09:20 AM | Yeah it's great when there are new adventures to play. Which was back in August. |
| Skerrit11-27-07, 09:07 AM | I have heard back from HQ. Apparently the database guy was on away for an extended time and that was what was holding up the addition of new mods to the system. He should be back now so you should expect mods to start appearing this week. |
| alanajoli12-01-07, 03:07 PM | Yay Greg! Thanks for looking into it... we're all looking forward to some new adventures. :) |
| Onslaught[IT]12-03-07, 08:29 PM | Mods are out!! Faction 8 and DM's 8!! |
| smerwin2912-04-07, 07:50 AM | Faction 9 and DM's 9 adventures should be out next week as well, or so I have been told. |
| JJeff12-04-07, 10:20 PM | So fast? It'll be a mad rush to run games |
| JJeff12-04-07, 10:57 PM | Sorry for the double post, but when is the next Expedition? |
| smerwin2912-05-07, 08:21 AM | I assume it will be released next week as well. |
| WotC_Tulach12-06-07, 06:21 PM | Look for more new adventures late next week. |
