I run a local RPGA gameday which is this coming Saturday. We also put out a newsletter and usually include upcoming modules and blurbs. I was wondering if the new modules (after the level bump) were done yet? If so, could I get the title and blurb for Crimson Codex (our gameday official faction). Thanks!

Official people might be able to help more, but the modules released at D&D eXPerience are now listed here: http://consupport.com/events/events.asp?Type=392&View=Play

No blurbs, unfortunately, but at least a little info!

Names at least are available from the D&D eXperience schedule:

EXP-3 Cairn of Stone Hearts
BWC-4 The Trouble with Pirates
CSH-4 Fire in the Heart of Madness
CVN-4 Brave Soldiers
CDX-4 Tomb of Tomes

The name of the fourth Crimson Codex module is "Tomb of Tomes." Here's an "unofficial" blurb:

The disappearance of Zeke Brithlestone and the raids on some Crimson Codex safehouses have disrupted the organization. Allegiances are questioned, and hints at deeper plots are bubbling up. Are the harried Serpents of the Codex capable of stabilizing the situation?

i LOVE the inter-faction stuff that is developing in the faction mods.

It makes it very amusing when players of one primary faction play another faction and meet "themselves" in the other factions mod.

I know the modules are premiering at XP, but is there any word yet on when these will be available for retail order?

The game store I've been hosting at is starting to chomp at the bit as this "final weekend" of play looms ever closer, and the vacant, questioning stares are starting to scare me. :)

I'd like to toss them a bone (and am hoping that I'll be able to schedule play as early as the 24th . . . )

Of course, I'll understand if there's nothing official yet. :)

I second the request for info as to when modules will be available for play after DnD eXPerience.

I have been asked whether Xen'Drik will be available for a local (Vermont) convention in mid April. From the blurb on extended premiers, I'm a bit scared that nothing will be playable by then. Tell me I'm wrong.

IIRC an "Extended Premier" has something to do with the number of points earned for playing that module. I think anything that's an extended premier gets the x2 modifier for RPGA play - but I've been wrong before, and I'm only just waking up, so take that with a grain of salt.

I'm sure (well. . . 98% sure) we'll see retail play available by March at the latest.

Of course, that could be wishful thinking. . . now that I have a bunch of D&D hungry addicts on my hands, I don't want to return to the store if new mods *aren't* available before then. . .

I hope you're wrong. The Gencon mods WEREN'T available for retail till like NOVEMBER, and weren't available for home play till 11/27.

This is why extended premiers are a problem. It keeps the Big Con mods exclusive for too long. I wouldn't be surpised if the 5th faction mods get released before the 4th ones come out for us regular folks.

My onyl question is when the DM mark #4s will come out. I hope they keep to a regular schedule.

The question of how Extended Premieres will affect adventure release in XE can only be answered by the people at HQ. They are aware of the drawbacks of the Expanded Premiere system, but they are also aware of the benefits. So I will remain cautiously optimistic that something can be worked out that will ease the problems with the Expanded Premieres format regarding to D&D Campaigns.

According to the information I collated at the time, XE didn't seem to be affected by the extended premiere programme, except for Well of Woe. All the #2 modules were available from 1st September for Conventions, 1st October for retail/gamedays and 1st November for homeplay. This is a pretty normal release schedule, with a staggering to encourage people to attend conventions. It's not a system I particularly like (especially as the number of bona fide conventions is very very small in the UK) but it's par for the course, and pretty normal for any module which premieres in late-August.

One comment I would make though - given the tighter story-line of D&D Campaigns, if the expeditions are to be subject to the premiere embargo, could that please be taken into account? So that the storyline makes sense no matter which order you play faction modules and expedition adventures in?

Since the con-formerly-known-as-Winter-Fantasy takes place over Feb 15-18, I take it that there will be no modules or marks available for Feb 10. Will anything be available by Mar 10?

Could you concider at least getting DM marks out in February for retail? It doesn't seem like there would be any reason to force DMs marks to be delayed to give cons the edge like with faction mods/expeditions. And having months in which no XE is legal for anyone without access to a con is just cruel and unusual.

Typically DM's Marks are designed to take place after their corresponding adventure and prepare the characters for the next expedition or faction module. Many DM's Marks reveal information regarding a past adventure or recommend the DM build upon a past adventure's occurences. Releasing the DM's marks before the adventures they are related to could potentially spoil the events.

The other issue is the level bump. There can't be playable modules available while the database is offline for the level bump (Which goes into effect at the Con).

I didn't realize the DM's marks tie in with the faction adventures since I've missed out on all of them so far. Also, it is not necessary that that be the case. I know the faction masters have only so much say, but -someone- has the power/authority to change that. My point was basically an "ideal" timeline like this:

January: Everything retires. DB goes offline.
February: DB brought back online. Cons get access to all modules. DM's Marks made available for retail games.
March: Faction adventures and expeditions made available for retail games. DM's marks made available for homegames.
April: All adventures legal until next level bump comes.

Otherwise, it appears that those without access to cons will be waiting until mid-March to play any more Xen'drik. It may be too late to do anything about it this cycle, but do we have to have a no-Xen'drik-for-you! policy for two months for each level bump?

I find this extra lame because I've got a good 9 DMs marks I could happily be playing in if the level bump hadn't come along and retired everything on me. (I'm not playing CoL.) I understand the technical issues requiring the DB shutdown and all that, I just would like to be able to play something in XE when the DB comes back online, not have an extra one month wait after. It also makes sense to me to give the one month lead to cons for stuff they run; but cons are not as well suited to running DM's marks IMO, and I was under the impression they generally didn't do those. Am I wrong? I'm certainly no expert there. It seemed like letting the DM's marks out to the starving masses immediately, while giving cons a month head start on everything else for that whole exclusivity bonus would be the best compromise to work for everyone. At least it is the best compromise I could come up with. It may, however, require that the DM's marks be written differently in terms of how they tie in with other mods, and obviously I wouldn't expect the factionmasters to re-write the existing mods just for that. Maybe they could slip in a bonus DM's mark 3.5 to fill in the gap? Maybe it's too late to do anything about this level bump, but there's still time to plan for the next one and plan to have something available for home and retail play as soon as the level bump maintenance is finished?

*bounces exitedly, eager to play with his shiny new level 4s after the level bump*

What sort of timeline should we expect to see for whatever's coming next? I know that D&D XP is a few weeks from now. What happens after that?

Well Dale, that is actually one of the big meetings at DDXP (the con where the FMs and Circle members all come and actually meet). I can tell you that there will be an additional update to the XECS at Gen Con and there will be more expedition mods at GC and GC SoCal. There may also be some more expedition DM's Marks, though that hasn't been confirmed yet. A more complete release schedule should be released in the month after DDXP. Right now we have a schedule, but we need to iron and fold it a bit with some of the recent scheduling changes concerning the database.

Or do you mean, DM's marks where all factions may play?

I'm assumign we're getting more faction Dm's marks. Hopefully, available for home play in Feb or March AT THE LATEST!

We have discussed the possibility of having Expedition DM's Marks. Still in the discussion stage.

In terms of having modules to play immediately after DDXP, I think I can speak for the Factionmasters when I say we will do everything in our power to make sure that modules are available to play as soon as possible after DDXP. As always, this is less our decision than it is an issue of what HQ wants and is capable of doing.
