| Peter_Seckler04-04-07, 12:06 PM | Yes, me. Be like me. I'm running some DM's Marks online! My goal is to run them all, as well as every faction adventure before the big GC. I fully agree that online gaming is not as awesome as 'real' gaming, but it's not bad, and with the advent of new tools and web-based services, online gaming has got its own dynamic. We will all probably be gaming online (somehow) in the future, for better or worse, so I'm jumping in early. My idea was to 'be involved' with the XE campaign, and also because I love to GM. But I like to play too, and I'd love to play in some of these mods. Now, I kinda screwed up. I am running stuff on FantasyGrounds, which is actually awesome. It's also just a bit costly (players have to use a client which costs around $20). There's a way to do this for *free*, though. Not as many features, but still very cool. There's OpenRPG. There's ScreenMonkey Lite (http://www.nbos.com/products/screenmonkey/screenmonkey-lite.htm) There's.. other stuff out there. These aren't just chat-channels. These are integrated virtual tabletops with maps and dice and all of that stuff. Please check this out. So in conclusion.. here's me encouraging you! It would be great to have more RPGA guys set up a virtual game. Xendrik faction and DM''s Mark adventures are legal to play online, as well as Living Greyhawk Cores (and I'd be all over that as well). Looking forward to seeing you..! |
| WolfStar7604-04-07, 12:29 PM | Once FGII is out of Beta I intend to run some of the published mods online. However, having been in the Beta, I dunno that I could go back to the original version. ^_^ As an added bonus, however, once I DO start running mods, I also offer up a TeamSpeak server for those interested. (Oh, and for those that might wonder - FGII is, last I'd seen, a free upgrade for people using FG). |
| Lilinthra04-11-07, 12:58 PM | I installed OpenRPG last night and played around with it for a bit. Unfortunately, it wasn't the most user-friendly program and the main website was down so I couldn't look up documentation. :-( I'll give it another try in a day or two. |
| lordtiberiusfoxx04-13-07, 06:59 PM | Anyone know of one of those programs that is linux based by any chance? |
| Peter_Seckler04-15-07, 10:51 AM | That's a tough one, but I think there are a few that are browser based that might work. Look up Screenmonkey. |
| Marcus Majarra04-15-07, 10:20 PM | I'm starting to feel like I'd like to make some sort of decent applet for this, but I don't know where to start! ^_^ |
| Harliquinn04-16-07, 08:29 AM | You could always use something like video conference software. |
| WolfStar7604-16-07, 03:29 PM | Anyone know of one of those programs that is linux based by any chance? I believe OpenRPG is cross-platform, but as someone who DM's I couldn't make heads or tails of it enough to make it useable. Someone with more time/patience could probably work wonders with it - it has a fanbase out there. Maybe if I sat in as a player first. . . just wasn't as intuitive as others (FG). |
| pedr04-16-07, 04:32 PM | I don't understand such things, but OpenRPG appears to use something called 'Python'. Don't know if that helps people know whether they can run it on linux. |
| Lilinthra04-16-07, 06:10 PM | The documentation on the OpenRPG website(s) has the Unix/Linux start-up command for the program, so yes, Linux is supported. Like PCGen needs the Java progamming language installed on the PC to run it, OpenRPG runs via Python. |
