Hello, my name is Joseph Silver, and I'm interested in playing in Xen'drik Expeditions. Are there any open online games that I can join, preferably IRC games? I hate the slow pace of forum-based games.

Anyway, is it possible to register online? The closest gaming store is an hour's drive away, and I don't want to have to drive an hour just to play D&D.

My character will be Alan Times, a lawful evil male human duskblade of the Cabal of Shadows.

Online RPGA games are organised in a few places, though the main one is the Yahoo Group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/OnlineGameDay

If you prefer to play at Europe-friendly times (so evening GMT, afternoon EST) there's also this group: http://groups.yahoo.com/group/LG_Europe_Online/

Some games are available to be signed up on Warhorn at http://www.warhorn.net/adhoconlinegameday/

Xen'drik Expeditions isn't the most popular RPGA campaign - most of the games on that group are Living Greyhawk games - but it is getting more play. There's a Cabal game on Friday night. It's currently oversubscribed, but people sometimes don't turn up so it might be worth creating your character and signing up. I'd very strongly suggest that you read the Campaign Standards two or three times and ask the questions you'll inevitably have (there are some counter-intuitive things in there!) here and/or on OnlineGameDay.

One drawback is that you currently can't play the 'Expeditions Adventures' (ones which characters from all four factions can play) online - so you might have to arrange something at that store, or rope in your friends and find someone who is an RPGA GM to run those ones for you.

Oh, and most online games use a program called OpenRPG, which is free (google it!) and the people on the yahoo group are good at helping people get started with it. One of the Online GMs uses Fantasy Grounds, which costs a bit of money and is prettier. Watch out here and on the yahoo group to find out which tool the different GMs are using.

Finally - don't neglect the other factions: you can create one character for each, and they provide a nice variety to the campaign.

Hope that helps - any more questions, feel free to ask!

I just installed and updated OpenRPG. So how do I create a character?

*Reads the manual while waiting for a reply.*

Edit: Which character sheet should I use for Xen'drik Expeditions?

Doesn't really matter what character sheet you use.
You can download one from the XE webpage (wotc site) but it probably says Mark of Heroes on it. You should also download the other stuff there.
