| Baalzephon09-29-07, 01:42 PM | Hi, I'm DM'ing a group of people who want to get a feel for the different factions. We're doing each of the current faction adventures with the archetypal pregenerated faction characters. My questions are these: 1. What is the purpose of character tracker? 2. Is it mandatory? 3. Would it be worthwhile using it for our home group if it is not mandatory? That is, are there any perks that it would grant of especial helpfulness to us? 4. How much of a "pain" is it to use, or is it relatively easy? Sorry for all the questions, but I can't find anything especially helpful in the campaign standards. Thanks! |

It includes a record keeping system for their gold and certificates (specific rewards earned in each adventure) but only shows their level - players do not know how much experience they have earned. 2. Is it mandatory? Yes. When the DM records each player's performance, the appropriate character file for that player will be updated automatically. Faction modules only update the appropriate faction, but the "generic" modules (such as EXP-5 Shargon's Rage) allow the DM to specify what faction each player used. 3. Would it be worthwhile using it for our home group if it is not mandatory? That is, are there any perks that it would grant of especial helpfulness to us? At this time the character tracker is only for use with certain sanctioned RPGA campaigns, such as Mark of Heroes, Legacy of the Green Regent, Xen'drik Expeditions and the like. No formal announcement has been made regarding online tracking of home-played characters and homebrew worlds. 4. How much of a "pain" is it to use, or is it relatively easy? It's quite painless - in fact, it's automated. I would hazard a guess that it's the easiest RPGA thing I've done. ;) |

So basically, we follow all the rules, but don't really care if our characters are portable outside of our group. (Well, that's the impression my players have given me anyway). But again, thank you. It looks like I just need to fill out a (very few) questions and everything will be all set. |

In the case of home campaigns, well, no tracker need apply. ;) You just get 1 RPGA point instead of 4. |
