PrCs from the DMG and ECS [Archive] - Wizards Community

08-21-06, 07:04 AM I have been working under the assumption that all prestige classes need to be unlocked by taking up one of the L5/10/15/20 expansion list slots. But I'm putting together a character for the Cabal of Shadows (Rogue/Duskblade/Ur-Priest/Mystic Theurge) and so I've gone looking for evidence of this rule, and haven't found it. In fact I've found evidence to the contrary.

Could someone please clarify what the position is? Are these PrCs locked, or not? Basically it makes the difference between being able to take MT at character level 9 or character level 10.

08-25-06, 06:37 PM Some prestige classes are unlocked to certain factions. Others (most evil ones) are restricted but a full list is unavailable but some are just locked for the Cabal and unlockable at 5, 10, 15 (and 20 although no one will every get to use that...).

Other than that we have to ASSUME all prestige classes are locked or restricted.

08-25-06, 09:09 PM On the old boards Shawn replied to me suggesting that it's reasonably plausible to expect that DMG and ECS PrCs are generally unlocked - and also that Ur-Priest might not survive the creation of a restricted list even for the Cabal of Shadows.

One point, though, IIRC the aim for all of the D&D Campaigns has been to level bump to 20th at the convention which features the campaign finale. This didn't happen for LGR for unexplained reasons. MoH hasn't got that far yet but I'm still expecting it to happen - if anyone knows that it isn't it would be nice to be informed! Clearly the resignation of SRM will have an effect on that (and it wouldn't be unreasonable to have presupposed that the MoH finale would revolve around the nerra in some fashion, meaning the culmination of SRM's own storyline). I hope that the factionmasters have evil plans to take us all the way to 20th! I'm certainly starting to plan characters up to that level (hence my request for info re: Ur-Priests!)

For what it's worth I'd be quite sad to miss out on the chance to play a Duskblade/Ur-Priest/MT, even if it does seem a somewhat overpowered character!

It'd still be good to have some kind of statement about whether ECS and DMG PrCs are locked or unlocked.
