| Max_ed02-10-07, 04:15 PM | I'm considering using the forged apart card to create a psi-forged character. Looking at Magic of Eberron, the example of a psiforged doesn't have the psi-forged body feat and has the mithral body feat. Can I do something similar and take the mithral body feat? If I do have to take the psi-forged body feat, can I be a psychic warrior and use my bonus psionic feat for it, or be a fighter and use my bonus feat for mithral body? Thanks for any clarification. |
| echoota02-10-07, 05:08 PM | For some silly reason the psi-forged body feat isn't a psionic feat and thus it can't be used as part of the psychic warriors bonus feat. Likewise the adamantium and mithral body feats don't qualify for the fighter bonus feat so that doesn't work either. We really need a new rewards card that lets any character be psionic, rather than restricting it through just a few race specific cards. It's essential that we have adamantium warforged psychic warriors walking about! |
| indel200102-13-07, 07:30 PM | ditto what echoota said. It appears that the example given in Magic of Eberron was a mistake. The Psi-forged Body feat is a Body Feat for Warforged meaning it fills the 1st level slot that would be used for Mithral or Adamantine Body. That is a disappointment as it presents a challenge regarding AC. Mind you, the Psi-forged Body feat provides the benefit of 1 extra power point thereby allowing even a Psi-forged to become psionically focused or use a psi-based AC boost. Is that a fair trade? I'm inclined that it is not the best trade for the benefit of Adamantine or Mithral body but....the Psi-forged body has its uses. I recommend using the disadvantages to frame the character of your PC and its playstyle. |

| echoota02-15-07, 01:21 PM | Mark of Heroes cards can be used in Xen'drik. There are around four cards that allow psionics. By being psi-forged, kalashar, half-giant or a psionic changeling. Hopefully a future card would just allow you to apply psionics to any race. |
| Istaran02-15-07, 03:26 PM | There is always that rule.. you know the one that lets you unlock any base class for three expansion slots? I'm not too familiar with psionics though.. is there something more required other than taking a psionics base class? |
| echoota02-15-07, 04:29 PM | You could do that, but the big thing that the cards do is also unlock the complete Expanded Psionics Handbook for you to use with your character. So if you just used the expansion slots and wanted psionic feats, items, etc then you'd need to use expansion slots to get them. Painfully crippling! |
| Istaran02-15-07, 06:32 PM | Much like how we incarnum users need to unlock all our essentia feats, etc seperately? Though that is somewhat easier if you have a faction unlock to get at least the base class (I don't since my Totemist is in BWC). That is the limitation on the non-standard power types in XE. You can't use all of the tangential stuff to optimally support it due to limited unlocks. You will just have to pick and choose some stuff. Maybe some future D&D campaign (or future version of the XECS?) will just include the XPH as core for you. |

Well, the card unlock all of the rules items in the XPH so you don't need to use any expansion slots to use those elements. However if you just went the expansion slot route, unlocked a psion for an elf, then you'd have to spend further expansion slots to unlock feats or psionic items. That would be painfully crippling. The "Shaper of the Soul Mist" card from set 4 of Mark of Heroes should essentially unlock the whole Incarnum book for you, so you don't have to use any expansion slots for that stuff, it works the same way as the psionic rewards cards. I'd just like to see a new psionic card that isn't race specific. It just lets you attach it to any character and give free reign to the XPH, much the way the card I mentioned above can be applied to most characters. |

While the card is primarily meant as a way to unlock the PsiForged race, I see nothing that states you HAVE to be a Psiforged, just that the raceis unlocked, as well as the entire XPH. As opposed to the "People of Mind, Matter, and Radiance", or "Uncommon Changeling" cards, which clearly state you must play the appropriate race. |
| echoota02-16-07, 02:10 PM | I'm sure it could be argued that way, but from previous questions on the forums about the half-giant I think the answer from a faction master was that you have to actually take the race and not just use the card to get access to the XPH. |
| Skerrit02-19-07, 07:26 PM | If you take the card, you must be a psi-forged. It does not unlock the XPH without taking the race. |
