Question about running XE at a Convention. [Archive] - Wizards Community

I have been asked to run three slots of Xen'drik Expeditions at Owlcon (Feb 9-11) in Houston. I was wondering how best to select them? Three rounds of the same faction or three different factions? It might be a bit confusing to new players that they have to create 3 different characters for the different factions, but players who know the campaign may want to advance a character in one faction. How have other GM/marshels run multiple slots at a convention with the expectation of new players.

I'm not losing sleep over this one, but any advice from someone who has done this might help avoid logistical problems.

Personally I would schedule either 3 faction adventures of the same faction, or 2 faction adventures likely followed by the 1 round expedition adventure. Mostly this allows for new players to keep their same character throughout, and also showcases the ability to keep items through an event, something I enjoy about XE.

As far as we know, there are no faction scenarios available for play during his con, though. Maybe there'll be something yet announced, but so far it looks like he's out of luck.

As tbug stated, the deadline for all current XE modules to be ordered and played is January 17, 2007. The new ones won't likely be legal until Winter Fantasy (D&D Experience) 2007.

Now, that said, you can still run the modules, but the players won't get credit for them either for campaign tracking or D&D Reward points (This last one I'm not entirely sure on but I imagine it to be so).

If you do decide to run adventures just for the fun of it (And to prepare people with some background knowledge for future modules), I recommend running the Well of Woe (3 round event) and let the players choose their faction. You might even give each faction a brief 'summary/recap' of what would have happened during their 1st round faction module. Doing this module gives the player's a chance to experience a particular faction and its interactions with others without forcing one over another.
