| Wick12-09-06, 10:27 PM | I ran my first RPGA event today. It was the “Principal of the Matter” the first mod for the Blackwheel Company Faction. I had a few questions come up. First about XP: do I just figure out the XP based on the EL of the encounters and provide that to the players individually or is there a standard XP for the mod? The other question is about what I report online. I understand the Cert 1 but not the Cert 2, Gold Loss or XP Lost, what do I report in these fields? |
| pedr12-10-06, 08:09 AM | 1) The system for Xen'drik Expeditions used to be that players didn't know their XP, just their level; this was reported by the online character tracker. This has now changed but the first two modules were written before the change. There is a list of the 'default' XP and GP awards in the new Campaign Standards (v1.1, page 14) but this might vary from the actual amount awarded by the adventure when you answer the adventure questions. Give your players those figures to write in their Adventure Journals, but tell them to use the GP value from the tracker if it is different (and alter their journals, I expect). The system has room for two Story Objects per adventure; some modules have the opportunity to gain two Story Objects, some one, some none. Due to some mistakes with the early adventures some are written as if you can gain three but you can't; players must choose which two they want reported. The codes for any Story Objects the players earn go in the Cert 1 and Cert 2 boxes but these can be left blank if the characters only earned one or no Story Objects. GP Loss and XP loss are for reporting exceptional extra spending or loss of XP, such as from the use of raise dead (unlikely, at this level!) or certain other very limited occurrances, such as if a player spent more than 'Cash on Hand', death of a familiar, etc. Don't put anything here unless you're sure that it is meant to be deducted. Normal spending on equipment does /not/ get reported, nor does spending up to Cash on Hand, including spending 'left over' cash from a character's EV. One other note - it's helpful to dictate the text of Story Objects you're awarding to your players to write in their Adventure Journals, or providing cut out copies of the objects for them to keep as the online system isn't perfect and it's very useful for a player to have a paper-based record of the text of the Story Objects for each character. Just reference it on the journal in the section you sign. Hope that helps! |
| Wick12-10-06, 04:08 PM | Thanks for the info. I will have to sign their journals the next time we gather. We were not sure if the place for signature was for me as GM or them as player it was not clear on the form. Thanks again for the clear explanation of what I need to do. |
| Harliquinn12-14-06, 01:12 PM | I got my Well of Woe properly credited in only a few days. RPGA was fast and it's appreciated. I have another question, very few of my characters have their Certificates reported (though we received notice in game that we had received them). Is there an appeal process for those? Or should we just use our Adventure Journals (Xen'drik Expeditions) to track the Certificates we *should* have? Harliquinn |
| Skerrit12-14-06, 02:55 PM | Well, first do you have all your PCs registered. We have notice that if you still have a "Default" PC, it doesn't let you see the story objects you are supposed to have. Beyond that, I encourage you to do both. Always write down those story objects you DM says you get on your Adventure Journal, but still report any problems to HQ. If they don't know about problems, they can't fix them. They are going to make some additional changes to the way things are reported soon, to make things easier on record keeping for Senior GMs. Hopefully that will decrease future problems. |
| Harliquinn12-14-06, 04:44 PM | I am in the process of doing a character registration (replacing default with characters). I waited explicitly because I knew that new Campaign Standards were coming out and I wanted to see the options before locking in my characters (Since at the time I wasn't sure there would be a retooling period). However, *some* of my certs have been recorded to default characters, so it's not consistent. It doesn't matter either way really, as I have written down which certs were given (Unfortunately some were before Adventure Journals so there is no DM signature). However, going forward that won't be an issue. Thanks, Harliquinn |
| Max_ed12-15-06, 09:40 PM | I saw a while back some question and response for the cert info for CoS mod#2. Was it removed? I need the codes to report the mod. (For the record, my last reporting went flawlessly.) Thanks in advance |

| Max_ed12-16-06, 05:57 PM | Thanks for the immediate response! I should never have tempted fate by saying how flawlessly things went last time. My entry won't be validated this time. It says: 1character for RPGANr: x is missing data. Click 'Submit Session' if the information looks correct on the screen. There is no "Submit Session" button on the screen. I can't seem to hit any sequence that works for me. I should add that this is a character that did not have "missing data" in the last mod, but another of my players had a "missing data" error last time, but it validated anyway. Am I the only one having this issue? Any suggestions? |
| dreamwolf12-31-06, 08:04 AM | Hi, quick question/issue. I ran the first two rounds of Well of Woe a couple of days ago, and my players are telling me that they only recieved credit for Round 2 on the character tracker. I looked at my activity and I got the GM points for having run it, but only one or two of the five players have it on their character activity. I double and triple-checked my reporting, so I know all five were on the form (besides, I couldn't report with only two players, right?) Is there anything I can do to try to recover their lost XP/GP? |
| pedr12-31-06, 08:48 AM | Have them file an appeal. To do this, have them log in to the RPGA members' area, click 'Update My Membership' then follow the links to 'appeals' and fill out the form. I wouldn't rely on it getting sorted out before the level-bump, and afterwards it's likely to be moot, but you might get lucky! |
| dreamwolf01-02-07, 06:26 PM | So, it turns out the results were reported, but I managed to get them reported to the wrong faction. My Crimson Codex players now have Blackwheel Company characters with experience from Well of Woe round 1. Oops. |
| pedr01-02-07, 06:59 PM | Apparently the appeals process can rectify this. It's worth a try! |
| raalynthslair01-11-07, 01:17 PM | So, it turns out the results were reported, but I managed to get them reported to the wrong faction. My Crimson Codex players now have Blackwheel Company characters with experience from Well of Woe round 1. Oops. Funny thing, I read this and got curious... My three missing mods? Well apparently they got reported for my "Covenant of Light" character (which I don't have, I am Crimson Codex). *g* Hmmm.... Well, off to figure out the appeals form(s) for me. :) |
