Serious problem with character tracker [Archive] - Wizards Community

Upon the recent revelation that the Divine Mind (not covered in the campaign standards 1.0) might not be available as a regular character and that the mention of Complete Psionic characters on the database was premature, I retired the character so that I could replace its slot with something else. Unfortunately, now when I log in, I see two character slots, both labeled "Default Character," and when I click on one to create a new character, I receive a VBscript error. Furthermore, I can't retire either of those slots; this also gives an error. This means that I can't register my new Covenant of Light character for play.

Please have someone look into this soon! I would hate to miss out on playing in the campaign because I can't print out my character's registration form or have events tracked.

EDIT: The specific error is:
Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0006'

Overflow: 'CInt'

We don't have access or control over the database. I don't want to see these problems go unanswered, so please, please don't just post them here. This needs to be reported to WoTC customer service first, and an email to the RPGA wouldn't hurt either. Keep in mind though, the database is a black-box to us as well.

Well, I sent the problem to Wizards support, who then sent me an automated response. Then a rep told me to send it to rpgasupport, so I sent an email there. Waiting to hear back.

I too have just had this problem. For those who are interested, the URL for reporting this problem is:

I'm seeing the same thing here. I'm a new member of RPGA, so I'm not sure if that has anything to do with it. I would think if this issue is common to everyone, we would see the boards light up in complaints.

Still, it's nice to know I'm not the only one.

Thanks,

Lol, I went there to report that I'm having the same problem, and was sent to a broken page with an error message telling me to get in contact with the System Administrator.

I've got all the necessary signed paperwork, so I'm not really that concerned. None-the-less, it is very frustrating. After playing the mods at a convention over labor day weekend, the feeling is mutual among many RPGA members.

Please understand that we share your concerns on this. The database errors are frustrating indeed but they are being seen to as quickly as the Web Monkeys can "ook". :)

Until then, the Adventure Journals can handle many issues and for those they can't, we Factionmasters are creating work-arounds for them. Just hold tight and we'll get back with you!

Still haven't heard anything back from Wizards on this, and it's still not working.

My daughter has the same problem. On the same computer I can enter information for my account, but when she tries she gets that same error message, so it cannot be something to do with my computer. It must be something messed up on the server that affects certain accounts.

That's very interesting. I did a quick google and found that one of the causes for this type of overflow error in VBScript is as follows:

Cause: cINT limitation causes this error. The range of numbers that cINT can convert is between -32,768 to 32,767

Solution: Use INT() if possible.

It would seem that whatever number is being put into the variable defined as an integer is falling outside that range. They just need to try redefining that variable type and see if it fixes the problem.

Also, is everyone who has this situation a relatively new member? I wonder if they exceeded some kind of programmatic limit on the number of members recently that's causing this to happen.

Here's hoping they fix it soon.

It is a week later and I am still having the same problem with the character database. Is there any ETA for when the database will be repaired?

What happens if I play a faction module with the "broken" character? How does the DM report the module? What happens to my hard earned XP and gold?

At the moment, the factionmasters don't have a good answer for you. We have zero control over the database, though everytime someone points out a problem here, we make sure to bring it to the attention of the people who do work on the database.

So I made the switch to Eberron from Living Greyhawk (switch is too strong a word, I'll still be playing LG). Played my first game with a Crimson Codex character (red shirts yay!!! oh wait...)

And I get the SAME error.

Microsoft VBScript runtime error '800a0006'

Overflow: 'CInt'

****ing fire someone already!!! If a problem persists for a week get someone competent in there!

As was reported at the members meeting at GenCon, one of the problems was that someone DID leave in the middle of the database switch. Just got a better offer and went without completing the work. So basically the folks trying to fix it have been going over it trying to figure out the previous persons work, and getting it all up to speed. Not an easy task.

And it's been more like 10-12 weeks. RPGA is confined to working with the assets given them by WotC. With the database guy leaving, and SRM leaving, things have spiraled out of control a bit and the only thing for us peons to do is wait patiently. :waits:

Frustrating, but it accomplishes just as much as yelling, and doesn't raise the blood pressure.

I've got the same problem as well for one of my characters. (My crimson codex character, which i tried to register after playing the mod). My CoL and CoS characters were entered in beforehand, and they're fine.

But screaming and yelling and pounding on the tables is much more fun. :fight!:

I don't know about anyone else, but my tracker is working now. After being unable to register, due to that same error you all have discussed, I was able to enter my scout, Vaeryn D'Phiarlan today.
Huzzah for the RPGA and whoever fixed the problem. Now I just need to decide how to spend my 200 GP from the first adventure.

It's working for me too. Hurray!

Hmmm...Well, the Character edit portion works now, however, I still get the error when I try to "retire" a character. It also happens again from within the character edit page, trying to "Display Certification" or "Print Character Record".

Has anyone tried these and got them to work properly?

Thanks,
Kordak

I'm in the same boat. I was able to edit the 2 "default character" entries, but I can't retire either of them nor can I print or display as above.

We're getting closer... "and there was much rejoycing" :cheer:

I dunno, I haven't been able to get anything in, I click and it goes over to the option to input my character information, and I do so, but then when I click for it to register it informs me that there was a problem reaching that page, and nothing gets registered. No idea what is going on.

My daughter was able to get her crimson codex character inputed, but has the same problem as before when she tries the "Print Character Record".
