In the Eberron Campaign Setting book p 120, it says that the Valenar Weapons are considered martial weapons for Valenar Elves.

In Races of Eberron p 81, it says that the Valenar weapon proficiency trait replaces standard elf weapon proficiencies.

Then Races of Eberron p 107 has the Bladebearer of the Valenar feat, which makes the double scimitar a martial weapon for Valenar Elves.

Which one do I believe?? The same problem exists for Talenta Weapons, which has a contridiction between EBC p 120 and the Talenta Warrior feat.

Well, I think you can understand why. We can't make ruling like this, because it is a matter of "Core" rules.

I've pointed this conflict out to Eberron product authors in the past. We can't make a rule-based ruling that doesn't cause a conflict because of the multiplayer campaign environment. So until they come up with some erratta, its entirely up to the DM at the table.

That's cool. Thanks. And I honestly didn't mean to come off like a jerk... my bad.

Side note: I know I ask a lot of bizarre stuff here. Unfortunately, its because it actually comes up. When it does, I get sent as my home group's "rep" to search for the answers. And of course, I don't have the group with four gnolls and a bunch of coreplays. No, I get the one with halflings riding dinosaurs, Valenar elves, dread necromancers, and barbarian/archivists trying to qualify for bizarre prestige classes...

No worries. With all of the books that we make legal for XE, these things come up on a regular basis. It's good that we have people who bring them to our attention!

I would hazard a guess and say that Valenar and Talenta regional weapons are only considered martial weapons for individuals from that region, where as the feat makes them martial for peoples of like heritage but born/raised abroad.

Bladebearer of the Valenar (Races of Eberron or Player's Guide to Eberron) has elf with the Valenar region as a prerequisite. *shrugs*

The best that my gaming group can figure from a prolonged discussion last night is that the feat is meant for Valenar elves without martial weapon proficiency, thereby allowing them to use the double scimitar. However, this still doesn't answer if a Valenar elf can use a rapier.

The general consensus with my local group, after Greg Mark's "up to the DM" ruling, is that Valenar elves use double scimitars as martial weapons as per the ECS. This of course, has no bearing on what your tables may decide.

Keep in mind, however, that Bladebearer of the Valenar also has additional benefits:

a) You deal extra damage while mounted with either a scimitar, falchion, or double scimitar
b) You apply the benefits of these feats to the three aforementioned weapons when you have the feats for either of them: Improved Critical, Greater Weapon Focus, Greater Weapon Specialization, Weapon Focus, Weapon Specialization.
c) When you spend an action point to modify the outcome of an attack roll involving either of these weapons, you also add the result to your damage roll.

Option c), along with Action Boost, was a great feature to have for my MoH Bladebearer.
