| RLRapp08-08-06, 04:27 PM | Just wondering if I can use one of my expansion slots to unlock a weapon from Table 5-3: Asian Weapons in the DMG. |
| RLRapp08-09-06, 05:33 PM | Anybody? |
| smerwin2908-09-06, 05:37 PM | Currently no one, including the factionmasters, have a definitive answer. |
| RLRapp08-09-06, 07:04 PM | I'm, afraid I'll need further clarification. |
| Japangirl08-10-06, 03:57 PM | We have no idea. |
| RLRapp08-15-06, 06:35 PM | Please, just give me a sign! |
| RLRapp08-16-06, 08:19 PM | bump |
| Grantor08-17-06, 01:24 PM | You already had a factionmaster reply and the last posting was only two days ago? It is unclear to me why you are bumping this topic. Anyway, the definative answer is not going to be on the message board, but, rather, the campaign standards. Good luck |
| RLRapp08-24-06, 06:39 PM | I have not yet begun to bump! |
| githmorien08-25-06, 05:27 PM | How often DO those typically get updated? Are we talking about a quarterly event, or something that just happens on an as-needed basis? I have a space in my nice campaign binder devoted to the Standards, and I just wanna make sure I don't manage to miss anything. :) |
| The_Jester08-25-06, 06:24 PM | You already had a factionmaster reply and the last posting was only two days ago? Where did the factionmaster reply? I sure don't see it... The campaign standards are vague. They were supposed to be updated for late July but it wasn't done until mid-August, and even then the 'update' amounted to the removal of information and fixing of typos. It's been admitted that these were sub-par and a better version is in the works, but no date has been given for this. I expect months of delay. One can assume the DMG is one of the "campaign's expanded sources" although a list of this is not provided. Nor is list of restricted items included, as "appendix 1" is absent. So, at this moment, there are NO restricted items. So you currently can use an expansion slot to take an asian weapon. Or even a modern or futuristic weapon from the same chapter. It's not prohibited by the Campaign Standards. |
| Herrbard08-25-06, 07:31 PM | Where did the factionmaster reply? I sure don't see it... See Post number 3. That would be the Crimson Codex Factionmaster, Sean Merwin. He admits that no one has an answer right now. Once the new man is hired and in place at WotC/RPGA, I'm sure we'll be able to get some answers to these questions. |
| smerwin2908-25-06, 07:57 PM | I'll try this again. The person at the RPGA who was in charge of the campaign is no longer with the RPGA. Currently the RPGA is taking resumes for his position. The Factionmasters are working their tails off on the things that are in our bailiwick, but right now there are things that we can do, and there are things that we cannot do. If it has to do with a Faction, we might be able to make a decision or provide a ruling. If it has to do with an adventure, we can certainly answer those questions. If it has to do with obscure questions that are clearly in the realm of what would be covered in the Campaign Standards, the best we can do is possibly clarify something currently there, but we cannot and will not be making rulings or answering questions regarding those deeper issues at this time. For example, if I were to make a snap ruling regarding unlocking Asian weapons from the DMG, I would say, "No." Another Factionmaster might say, "Yes." Either way, at this time neither one of us would be correct, because we cannot make such a ruling. Maybe at some time in the future we will be given the power to make those decisions. Even if that happens, we would still need to sit down and talk it over, not just with ourselves but with people at the RPGA, people at Wizards in other departments, and other people deemed "campaign contributors." I hope this post, though certainly not what everone wants to hear, makes the situation perfectly clear. The question will be answered at some point, but I do not know when. I would not take Weapon Focus: Katana as a feat until someone is in a position to answer that question. Shawn Merwin Crimson Codex Factionmaster |
| RLRapp08-26-06, 06:38 PM | So where do we send in the resumes?:D |
| smerwin2908-26-06, 07:26 PM | http://ww2.wizards.com/Company/Jobs/ is the place to start. The job you are looking for is RPGA Content Manager. |
| The_Jester08-26-06, 07:33 PM | See Post number 3. That would be the Crimson Codex Factionmaster, Sean Merwin. He admits that no one has an answer right now. Oops. Normally they have their position in their sig. I'm not that familair with the Codex's F-master, especially since he lacks an avatar. So if we do unlock a later restricted weapon and take a feat related to it, can we change that feat? |
| JJeff08-26-06, 07:52 PM | I think it was stated that there is no re-tooling of feats. Just equipment. |
| Harliquinn08-26-06, 08:21 PM | Hmm a job at RPGA! That would just be too cool :) *dusts off his resume* |
| RLRapp08-31-06, 06:56 PM | To bump or not to bump, that is the question. |
| kiddoc08-31-06, 08:08 PM | To bump or not to bump, that is the question. In the future, Greg Marks or "Skerrit" the Factionmaster of the Cabal of Shadows faction will be answering such rules questions. You might have better luck snagging him in his own forums. :) |
| Skerrit08-31-06, 10:07 PM | He only says that because I pretty much always just say NO. It's a conditioned response from LG. |
| smerwin2909-01-06, 07:45 AM | To bump or not to bump, that is the question. We will not have an answer for you until the new CS is completed in late September. |
| RLRapp09-13-06, 09:59 PM | we shall all bump together, or we shall surely all bump seperately. |
| The_Jester09-17-06, 12:55 AM | Can you read? |
| tbug09-17-06, 06:18 PM | Who are the moderators of this community? |
| jeffpicard09-17-06, 10:34 PM | for each forum they're listed at the bottom of it's index page, but as bumping isn't against the CoC (bumping more than once within 48 hours is, but twas nearly a fortnight since the last bump) and the fact that there'll hopefully be an answer within a few weeks (which the op apparently doesn't want folks to forget the question was asked) at which point the thread can die a lonely death |
| tbug09-17-06, 11:06 PM | Thanks. |
| The_Jester09-18-06, 02:18 AM | By the time there is an official reply -the release of the new Campaign Standards- then he can just look up his answer and this threa will still be meaningless. |
| arscott09-18-06, 06:24 AM | Let's just get this thread locked in some other manner. Quick! Everyone talk about religion and politics! |
| psgj09-18-06, 01:53 PM | He will only start a new thread. Best thing is just to ignore it. Less stress that way. psgj |
| RLRapp10-05-06, 07:44 PM | To bump or not to bump, that is the question. |
| Lightblade10-06-06, 09:46 AM | The answer should have been "not to bump" The new CS should be coming out anytime now. They said they're taking player comments once it comes out. Wait until then just like everyone else. |
| The_Jester10-08-06, 05:19 PM | Didn't they say late-September? No I wonder if they said that because it was expected to be done then or because it was a late-date and they expected delays. Either way we're rapidly closing in on mid-October. |
| Skerrit10-09-06, 10:13 AM | There has been a small delay that was out of control. If you watch the news, you may have heard that there was a chemical plant explosion in APex, and some folks had to be evacuated. Those folks include at least one FM and his family. As soon as that gets sorted out and get the go ahead (which should be this week), we will be posting the draft for players to look at. |

I spent from 6pm to 3am last night at the hospital under "baby watch" with my 9 month pregnant wife. We got the contractions slowed down--but this baby could be coming any day (minute) now. I am nearly done with my end of the CS--and I'm working on it as time allows (usually while she's sleeping). :incog: |

Let us know when we should start passing out the BWC cigars. |
| JJeff10-11-06, 11:29 AM | Hmm... Mace Junior... Or is it a girl? |
| The_Jester10-11-06, 12:03 PM | ... oops... um.... I'll just be... um... over here... under this rock... |
| TheOtherChris10-12-06, 07:44 PM | Hmm... Mace Junior... Or is it a girl? Tis a girl. But for some reason when I suggested Traggar as the middle name he beat me to a bloody pulp? |
| Busted_Hump10-12-06, 11:27 PM | Man I hope that you weren't too put out by that massive evacuation ;) I know how it is to be in a situation like that, and it really does suck. |
| Errean10-13-06, 08:56 AM | Congradulations on the new baby girl. I hope that all is going well and that your wife is as comfortable as possible. I'm sure that you're both overjoyed about this. I had heard that one of our faction masters had to be evacuated and I hope that he/she and their family are doing well. For me, as far as the CS goes, let it take it's time. After all, D&D is just a game. P.S. I think it would be a really cool idea if you included your daughter in a future adventure somehow. I love little stuff like that dropped in, makes the game somehow more personal and it's like an inside joke, and stuff. Just an idea. |
| TheOtherChris10-13-06, 11:08 AM | Don't think he's had her yet. She wants to get out of there and start making poo, but not quite yet. (well, I guess it's more his wife having her, but he'll be there?) But I'm sure he'll post up his address shortly so all can mail him diapers so that instead of having to run out to the store, he can be happily finishing his work. :) *is currently snickering at the look on kiddoc's wife when the UPS guy shows up with 30 skids of diapers* hehe (Unfortunately she would get my wife to kill me, and that would be bad for me) |

We just got the official due date for her delivery. Muahaha, surgery is scheduled for Oct. 31st. :pumpkin: |
| ispq10-15-06, 04:37 AM | It seems to me that the Asian weapons and renaissance weapons tables should be available, as they are both from the DMG and fit with Eberron's level of technological development. None of the weapons listed are unbalanced with the rest of the weapons from the Player’s Handbook, especially with regard to the price/power ratio. The tables that as a DM I can almost feel the original poster was truly asking about were the modern and futuristic weapons. This is an easy answer, as since neither chart has prices listed neither chart can be used to buy items from, making them both random trivia charts rather than useful lists of available items. No listed price means that no PC can purchase them. This makes them game balance safe, unless a twisted DM decides to equip his robot guardians aboard a crashed alien spacecraft with laser pistols. These are just my thoughts on how to handle those tables. |
| Gurrangatch10-16-06, 01:43 AM | I would just like to point out that in Eberron there are two factors that could allow for easy access to the futuristic or modern weapons; DM's Mark adventures and the common presence of robots (aka Warforged). Clearly laser warforged components would be a perfect fit in the campaign setting. Just hook it right up to your arm socket and fire away, even better than a warforged warlock. |

| ispq10-17-06, 07:07 AM | I would just like to point out that in Eberron there are two factors that could allow for easy access to the futuristic or modern weapons; DM's Mark adventures Fortunately for the rest of us DM's, items granted in a DM's Mark adventure last for at most the event during which they are awarded, and thus do not burden the remainder of the D&D Campaign with such items. |
| ispq10-17-06, 07:08 AM | Nope, I just want one of the asian weapons. Likely story, I've heard that from player character's before. :) |
| GenerallyUnique10-17-06, 12:10 PM | RLRapp, that you've carried this on this long, to be blunt, is stupid. Did you actually read the idea behind a katana or wakzashi in D&D? They're just 'finely crafted'. Actually read what it says. A katana is a masterwork bastard sword. With a curve to it. Same stats and everything. A wakzashi is a masterwork short sword. With a curve to it. Same stats and everything. Both the dhakaani hobgoblins and the dwarves of the mror holds have a samurai tradition (though, let's face it, the dwarven weapon pair is probably a waraxe and a handaxe). What this means is simple: Take Exotic Weapon Proficiency: Bastard Sword (katana). Then, buy a masterwork katana with your EV. When people ask you what your character looks like, tell them that he's a blah blah blah carrying a very ornate curved sword. Easy, no? |

None of the weapons listed are unbalanced with the rest of the weapons from the Player’s Handbook, especially with regard to the price/power ratio. I haven't even looked at the tables in question but basic price of weapons is completely irrelevant beyond the first couple of levels. Most of the cost of a weapon is the Magic and, to a lesser extent, special material (even the Masterwork component swamps most base prices). The 'power' of a weapon on the other hand can be extremely imporant (though the damage dice size loses significance too). |
| The_Jester10-18-06, 12:44 AM | The new Campaign Standards are in. No asian weapons (or futuristic or modern) on the restricted list. So far they are still a go! |
