When can you buy potions? [Archive] - Wizards Community

I am becoming increasingly confused about when you can buy potions, specifically potions of healing. I have read a few threads now that indicate that people are buying potions of healing after they have played their first mod as pretty much standard practice.

The campaign standards indicates that potions of healing are indeed limited items, and that a 1st level character has a 0gp limit on limited items, thus no potions of healing until lv 2.

I know that one possible way to overcome this is by selecting the healing package as your first two expansion slots as long as you have the minimum charisma requirement.

So, is this simply a case of the healing package being taken by a significant portion of players (thus leading to groups with reasonably above average charisma scores, "We are the Company of the Beautiful People":D ).

Are you allowed to buy potions in game? Your character just wanders down to the market and buys a couple if you have the time?

Or is there something else I am just missing. I would love to be able to buy potions of healing for my lv 1 characters as they would go a long way to increasing survivability, but I can't take the healing package.
