| Jesse Heinig06-29-06, 05:10 AM | When did the campaign start? I didn't even hear back on the submission that I sent in for the factionmaster business, and now all of a sudden it's already in motion! Did I miss any of the adventures? |
| kiddoc06-29-06, 06:56 AM | Jesse, The campaign hasn't yet begun. The website just went "live" this past Friday. Origins will be a "preview" or sneak peek at the campaign--with the intent to kick things into high-high gear at Gencon. You haven't missed a thing yet. Welcome to the campaign! |

| Munchausen07-13-06, 01:09 AM | Yeah wife and I are planning to go (just moved to vegas).. but I looked at Gen con Indy.. if you have to pay to get in a rpg con.. then pay again to play in a game.. you know what.. you can take that idea and shove it.. RPGA tried that a few years ago and it sucked real bad.. alot of cons up in the NW (thats where we use to live in Wa State) didnt even let em in the doors (for got what it was called but had like a $35.00 a year thing or $1.00 per adventure). Since they droped that.. RPGA is more than welcomed at cons (If they show up.. heh you know what cons i am talking about NW peeps) But so far I am surprised for Las Vegas.. Not alot of game groups.. I have found 2 stores that have space for gamming (best is Horseheads Hobbies) but they mostly do CCG, Mini, Boardgames (which i do too). |
| Madfox1107-13-06, 04:52 AM | Is it really that weird to ask money for joining a game to cover expenses? Printing is not particularly cheap, often enough the DMs demand some form of compensation as well and the con-organizers want to see some cash as well to rent the floor-space being used. Of course, they could ask the con-organizers to provide them the money from their income, but that would increase the prize for all antendees, even those that only come there to play their own games or just to visit the trade-hall and the various work-shops. Wouldn't you protest if convention attendence price goes up to cover the expenses for the constumes of the LARPers NPCs (just a random example of something that is more expensive than table-top D&D)? Note though that to run Xendrik Expeditions or Living Greyhawk the RPGA does not has to attend the convention directly. Any member can order an event and run it. |

He's probably referring to Gen Con Indy prices. Admission is $75 and each game is another $6. Couple that with the high motel prices and I think they're pricing themselves out of the market (Origins was $50 and $4.50, IIRC). The only reason I'm going to Gen Con this year is for the Living Death battle interactive and it's likely to be my last one, barring changes. Ed |
| Munchausen07-13-06, 04:12 PM | Well as for paying to get into Con's.. that doesent bother me (heh Before my wife and I even start to enjoy Norwescon we spend about 425.00 just for the 3 night rooms and 2 4 day convention pass, not including food, stuff we buy at the dealer room etc etc). That dosent bother me.. You know if you want to make money, instead of running a rpg game.. get a job. I guess the mindset of NW gamers is WAY differ than all the rest.. Not ONE convention in Washington state or Oregon state charges a person to play a game at a con once you buy the 1,2,3 or 4 day pass. If someone tried that, they would be told not to charge for the game or leave the premise. Maybe thats why not a lot of Cons happens down in the SW because of that. Why PAY to enter a con, then Pay again to play a game at the con is absurd in my mind. And for LARPSers.. FI you want a outfit to wear.. make one. Go get a pattern and fabric and learn to sew. And the compensation for Gm's at cons? They get to run games.. period. Yes cons do have a system where you do X hours and get a free t shirt.. X more for 1 day con charge free.. or more X hours you get the whole Con Free. |

Free Room for 4 nights, Free entry into the con, some free swag (book, DM screen, etc) all for running for half the show. All for playing a game. Sounds pretty good to a lot of people. |
| Munchausen07-13-06, 10:45 PM | True I have not. That is the person that wants to judge his/her choice. If they want to spend most or all the Con doing that ok.. again their choice. Still is no reason to charge people to play each game after they pay $$$ for the whole con. In my opinion.. cons that do that, people should stop going to them. Then again i guess people are mindless when they pay $$ for a con.. then walk up to a table to play a game and fork out more $$ just to play it. Also too then number wise if a Con has to resort to that.. guess it means they are not getting enuff people into the con itself to pay for everything. Means a con is running in the red, which is bad. |

And for LARPSers.. FI you want a outfit to wear.. make one. Go get a pattern and fabric and learn to sew. In other words, ask the RPGA gamers to take their own copies of the ARs with them as well the adventures for the DMs, the handouts and in some cases the neat colored battlemaps. Which is fine by me, but it would be a bit difficult to arrange. Not to mention the amount of complaints the organizers would get for not having character sheets, and the like available. Now one could argue that Indy GenCon is becoming too expensive ($90 for 15 hours of gaming is not that expensive when compared to movie theaters, but to each his own), but that is not the same as being surprised about the fact that you have to pay admission fee and pay for the games you join. The people who run those games do make expenses, and it is rather unfair to charge those expenses from people that do not even play those games. I would be very surpsirse if the RPGA made a profit (or at least not a big one) from running games at those big shows. As for the perks for DMing, considering they need to make them this high to even get DMs at the big shows (and even than they sometimes have trouble getting enough people - but that is because Dave tries to use good DMs only) proofs that most DMs do not consider DMing on a same level as playing. |
