| lseelba05-11-07, 07:25 PM | I'm sure the factionmasters have already heard of these things but just wanted to get it out into the open. The following things need to be changed or errata'ed: Page 7, Item Creation Feats, 3rd paragraph: says nonconsumable items can be created for 2/3 published cost. Page 7 and Page 17, Extraordinary Artisan: says nonconsumable items are normally created at 3/4 published cost. One of these fractions is wrong. Page 10, Limited Items, Repair X Damage Wands list: The costs for RMD, RSD, and RCD do not agree with the listing of Caster Level 1st. I assume the prices are correct and the caster levels need to be adjusted to 3, 5, and 7 respectively. The final thing isn't an errata per say but a concern/question. On page 7, Item Creation Feats, Paragraph 4 it reads "...in the case of artificers, the item's caster level is equal to or less the artificer's ranks in Use Magic Device minus three or the artificer's class level plus two, whichever is less." My concern is that for a single class artificer, the max UMD ranks is level + 3, so if you subtract 3 from that, it is simply level. So this completely negates the artificer's class ability to create magic items at his caster level + 2. Was the intention to make the formula UMD ranks + CHA modifier -3? Because that would make more sense to me... |
| Timlagor05-12-07, 08:39 AM | 1) They know about this one. The 3/4 is wrong. 2) You must be right because CL1 RMD is not possible 3) I think they did this on purpose. They have gone out of their way to limit Artificer power. I don't like that they are using item CL entries for creation here just when LG has finally accepted that it the Book CL isn't a prerequisite for crafting. |

I don't like that they are using item CL entries for creation here just when LG has finally accepted that it the Book CL isn't a prerequisite for crafting. If you are correct, they should at least allow artificers to take skill focus UMD and count those as 'ranks'. I'd totally pick up the skill focus feat for my drow artificer if this was the case. |
| Timlagor05-13-07, 08:32 PM | Please tell me what you did pick :) |
| lseelba05-14-07, 04:06 AM | Please tell me what you did pick :) Well I've only played Crimson Codex fastplay before, so I still have the luxury of choosing feats for my main character. Level 1 feat is Two-Weapon Fighting. My level 3 feat will probably be Quicken Spell but if I can get an answer to the above issue I might switch it to Skill Focus UMD. |
| Timlagor05-14-07, 12:18 PM | I went with SF(UMD) anyway. I'm halfway through a module and haven't actually used it yet but I'm sure it's worthwhile at low levels. The big drawback is that it loses ground seriously when a) Wands kick in with the fixed DC20 b) Skills go up steadily (especially if I should somehow find the Artificer's Dream: an item that boosts UMD --though once your Infusions get more plentiful you can make your own) Fortunately you can always drop it at the Level Bump. |
| lseelba05-14-07, 06:03 PM | Here is another clarification change for the XE Campaign Standards. On page 14, there is the list called "Notations on Campaign Cards". I often use that list to see what legal sources are, because it is easier to browse than the paragraph on page 2. All of the sources on the list are either also found on page 2, or found on page 18 as a restricted source. THERE IS ONE EXCEPTION THOUGH...Weapons of Legacy is found on neither page 2 or page 18. To avoid confusion, it should be placed on the list of allowed sources on page 2, or the list of restricted sources on page 18. |
| lseelba06-03-07, 02:20 PM | This is a very minor errata, but I'm including it here for completeness (and to bump the topic so the factionmasters will give more thought to my concern about artificers :D) If you go by the campaign standard rules strictly while making the table, Table CS-3 on Page 8 is wrong with respect to most bolt costs, and the cost of silver ammunition. The table should read: Ammunition Normal -Arrows (20) 5 gp -Bolts (10) 5 gp -Shuriken (5) 5 gp Masterwork -Arrows (1) 35 gp -Bolts (1) 35 gp -Shuriken (1) 35 gp Alchemical Silver -Arrows (1) 10 gp 2 sp 5 cp -Bolts (1) 10 gp 5 sp -Shuriken (1) 11 gp Cold Iron -Arrows (20) 10 gp -Bolts (10) 10 gp -Shuriken (5) 10 gp Not a big deal like I said but bolts should cost more than arrows, and the cost for silver ammo is off by between 4 and 5 gp per unit. |
| lseelba06-12-07, 03:04 AM | This one's the most minor one by far: Page 13, Action Value, Paragraph 4: Sentence 1: "Because of the action value mechanic, you can have creation cards and item cards in your stack buy not gain their usual benefit." "item cards" should be changed to "expansion cards". Item cards can always be used as action points. Its expansion cards that cannot and should be used as a placeholder like creation cards. |

There are certain books which are intentionally neither in the allowed nor restricted sources list; those books are available for use in story objects at the factionmasters' discresion, but their rules items cannot be unlocked with expansion slots. Such books include the Book of Vile Darkness, and the Book of Exalted Deeds. At this moment, Weapons of Legacy is such a book. Unlike the other two, this may simply be a timing issue. (I believe Weapons of Legacy came out fairly recently, and they might not have had time to review it in time for XECS 2.0.) The list of "Notations on Campaign Cards" is a list of shortcuts that are used on campaign cards.. my guess would be that if Weapons of Legacy made that list but not the Allowed nor restricted list, there was concideration of putting one or more rules items from that book as a campaign card only unlock. (Even if they did not decide to actually do so, they may have wanted to leave the option open.) |
| Harliquinn07-02-07, 11:59 PM | Found an omission. Under Chameleon, there are rules for adding spells based on Spellcraft ranks. However, there is no mention of those spells being un-retoolable. The wizard however lists Spellcraft rank-purchased spells to be unable to be retooled. I assume Chameleon is the same but it's not listed. Harli |

(Even if they did not decide to actually do so, they may have wanted to leave the option open.) You are correct. Weapons of Legacy falls into the same catagory as Book of Exalted Deeds and Book of Vile Darkness. A future story object or campaign card might unlock something from that book, but it is not available for players to use their expansion slots. |

What if items of legacy become available in more generic books? For example, The Forge of War includes a rather cool legacy cloak that would be superb for my character ;) |
| Skerrit07-09-07, 12:41 PM | Assuming we catch them, such items should be restricted. (so if you get access to them via a story object, you are okay, but otherwise you can't unlock them). |
| Harliquinn07-09-07, 01:41 PM | I imagine you could just restrict "Legacy Weapons" the concept along with the book, that way you cover both. |
| lseelba07-31-07, 01:31 PM | With the Factionmasters working on the new Campaign Standards now, I just wanted to make sure the above Errata make it in. -Lou |
| echoota07-31-07, 04:41 PM | It would be great to have a clarification on Darkleaf armor costs. From the entry it talks about the process as if you can make any type of medium or heavy armor out of Darkleaf. It says that the most common forms are breastplate and banded mail, and gives costs for them, but the obvious question is how much does a suit of Darkleaf Full Plate armor cost? While similar to mithral in it's effects it isn't quite up to par with it and so one would assume it would be a little cheaper. |

While similar to mithral in it's effects it isn't quite up to par with it and so one would assume it would be a little cheaper. There is no cost formula given for Darkleaf (and none is easily determined from the two costs given), so like any other item, you may only purchase those found on a specific chart. In this case that means only darkleaf breastplates and banded mail are available in XE (unless more darkleaf items show up in another source). |
| Marcus Majarra08-01-07, 10:10 AM | I believe darkleaf armor was first featured in the Arms and Equipment Guide (P19). The price modifiers are: Light armor: +750gp Medium armor: +2,250gp Heavy armor: +3,000gp This coincides with the prices of the darkleaf breastplate and darkleaf banded mail in the ECS. This would make the darkleaf fullplate quite an affordable armor, at 4,500gp. |
| Skerrit08-01-07, 11:04 AM | Ah, there you go. The answer is in another source. |
| echoota08-01-07, 12:17 PM | This would make the darkleaf fullplate quite an affordable armor, at 4,500gp. Cool. The Duskblades in the party will be happy to hear that they can tromp about in fullplate without any arcane spell checks now. |
| Istaran08-01-07, 02:16 PM | Is this campaign official now? A&EG isn't exactly campaign legal, let alone automatically unlocked. |
| Skerrit08-01-07, 07:03 PM | A&E is not campaign legal. This is a topic I will see about adding to the next XECS. |
