Animate Dead seed confusion [Archive] - Wizards Community

So, planning a little bit of necromantic dabbling, I read through the animate dead seed description, and came across the sentence A caster can naturally control 1 HD per caster level of undead creatures he or she has personally created, regardless of the method used. Under a literal interpretation, I think this means that the previous limit from non-epic (4 HD per CL) drops the moment that you cast a single epic animate dead spell.....

Has this been clarified one way or the other yet? I could understand one HD per CL of undead created by epic animate dead spells, that might make sense. I would be most amenable to the ruling that the HD limit should be adjusted to match non-epic caps of 4 HD. Mostly though, I just want to know if making an epic animate dead spell is a waste of resources :weep: thanks!

The problem here is that animate dead was changed between editions. The 3.0 version was "create 1 HD/CL, control 2 HD/CL"; 3.5 doubled those. I don't see anything wrong with fixing it so the seed follows the 3.5 rule - matter of fact, you should check the 3.5 SRD conversion thread - it's got all the seeds/spells converted to 3.5 rules.

I don't know about all the seeds, but there was some work done on a few. This should be added if it is not already.

If Bluemage doesn't update the page soon, someone might have to take over...

I did the preliminary work on the seeds... I'm fairly sure I fixed that one to conform to 3.5 rules.

You did, I remember that work, but I didn't see that Blue had included it. Is it in a separate thread? Seriously, one of these days when I get an extra 48 hours in a day....for a week or two..... ;)

Or the ability to clone myself....Simulacrums - to me!

Hmph. Well. Fortunately, I still have a copy... you can find it here (http://www.geocities.com/mistmane/files/epicspells.zip).
