Does anyone have any suggestions for stating Atlas the titan from Greek mythology? Running an evil campaign where the PCs basically want to destroy the world, and I thought fighting the titan that hold is up would be pretty epic.

I was planning on a Paragon Titan with penalties for holding a heavy load (or at least medium) and only one hand free (holding up the planet with other). What would this net me as far as a CR and does anyone else have any ideas, fluff or crunch?

I'd just suggest an Elder Titan with advanced HD (Possibly max). Remember that Paragon creatures are stuff like the first species, the ultimate endpoint, and other 'perfect' statuses. Atlas is just big and powerful.

ok ill look that up then. What would be a proper CR penalty for the heavy load and only one arm free for slams?

I'd rule him as effectively being disabled from the load. He can only make one move or standard action in a round, though I'm not sure how that would adjust the CR.

Well A: Atlas held up the Sky...

And B: Oronas crashing down to the earth and destroying it would pretty much Hose the Evil PC's too... Unless their lifes dream is really to destroy the earth with them on it. :twitch:

I suggest you use an elder titan, add DvR 0 and slap on the paragon template for good measure :) If he only fights with one hand, you can let him wield the earth as a shield (effectivly granting him 50% cover, else as a tower shield).

This would make for a quite epic challenge as you will have to fight someone who can slam you with the world itself.

If atlas is holding up the earth, what are the PCs standing on?:P

Fly is a 3rd level spell.

Fly doesn’t explain how they’re not fighting on the earth. They would be, I suppose, levitating in space, which would require a whole new set of spells/items to accommodate.

They could also be fighting from another plane, were the material plane manifests as a massive orb that atlas carries, thus the image of him carrying the world?

I was thinking a demiplane of some sort for where they fought him.

and setekh, your right, i forgot he help up the sky, not the literal earth itself. But yeah there goal is to literally destroy the entire planet, MAYBE planeshift out if they have the time, but this is kinda the end of the campaign so i doubt they're too worried about that.

Yeah, I suppose that works too.

Now you also got to take into account that attempting to destroy the earth will incur the wrath of all sort’s of things that don’t want to die and will do everything in their power to prevent it. Likely you’ll not be fighting just Atlas, but the entire populous of the planet. That should give you a bit more epic goodness to chew on.

Just for the record, those images only came about when people knew the earth was round. Originally, the 'world' was a big flat disc with the Greek world on it, surrounded by the great river Ocean. Makes sense, since Atlas can't be supporting the sky as well if the world's round.

Maybe the PCs could be fighting from some kind of flying craft (Probably an airship, but whatever you could come up with).

1) If there are other gods still alive, Atlas would doubtless have a way to contact them. When the PC's attack, Atlas himself might be completely helpless under the burden of Earth, but dozens of minor dieties or the servants of other gods would get summoned to help protect the pillar of creation.

2) Fight him on a demiplane. Maybe atlas isn't literally "holding up the earth" unless he's standing on something even bigger to hold the earth up from. Maybe that's an analogy for supporting creation, binding the planet together, holding the currents of the planet in check. He exists in a demiplane, his will and might holding in check celestial eddies that would otherwise crash through the planet.

3) Pudding.

Atlas was not just holding up the World. He hoisted his daughter onto his shoulders and she perised there becoming the Earth. Assumedly he was standing on the World of the Gods...very Burden of the Gods...Or maybe he was standing on the Past, Holding the Future on his shoulders...
