So you've managed to stay away from cheesy you're saving the world plot links for the first 20lvls or so, but at epic levels the players all expect to be doing this sort of thing on a regular basis, how can I end such a campaign without resorting to "save the multiverse or become a god" style endings?

Easiest way? Make it something personal.

Have a big bad that seems to have plans for crazy evil world/planar destruction. Have them manipulate the players into doing things for them, attack their families etc. Make them hate this NPC.

Then put the plan into action, everything falls together for the bad guy, and its not aimed at destroying anything, though such damage might happen incidentally. They want to save a lover, or themselves, or what have you.

From there, I find it best to seperate the players, put them each up against a lieutenant, or a pet of the main villian, challenge them each as individuals rather than as a party.

Then you have one of two options. Either the big bad is severly weakened by his/her plan, enough that the party leader can fight them evenly for once, or two, she gets a boost, and the party has to band tightly together to ultimately defeat her.

Thats my style anyways, yours may vary.
