| Lord_of_Vain10-20-07, 05:03 PM | Hey I just got thrown from level 20 to level 35 for The Keeper of the multiverse. How do I get my spellcraft and possibly knowledge arcana up really high. What magical items or whatever are the best combinations for boosting that to be able to cast high level epic spells? |
| Taeldrin Laesrash10-20-07, 07:10 PM | Probably just an item of +30 to Spellcraft. Use the standard competence bonus-granter for 90,000 gp, and then get it with other bonuses, 180,000 gp each. |
| Lord_of_Vain10-21-07, 04:09 PM | Where is the table for that? |
| Taeldrin Laesrash10-21-07, 05:00 PM | The DMG's item creation charts. |
| Millenia10-21-07, 05:38 PM | Magical Aptitude for +2, Skill Focus (Spellcraft) for +3, Epic Skill Focus (Spellcraft) for +10, Masterwork Tool for +2 circumstance, the above-mentioned Spellcraft-boosting items, any intelligence boosting items, spells designed to boost your spellcraft modifier, epic spells designed to increase your intelligence and/or your spellcraft modifier.... |
| archerpwr10-22-07, 02:50 PM | Out of curiosity: Why do you even want that high of a spellcraft check? Epic spells are rediculusly expensive and the cost is based solely on the spellcraft dc. Ignore this question if you happen to be an incantatrix. |
| Lord_of_Vain10-22-07, 03:08 PM | Some of the epic spells are looking pretty sweet. I'm not going for a lot, but to have a couple that are really cool would be nice. And for that specific character I took tons of platinum pieces from this bag of infinite platinum so moneys not that big of a problem. The world is new though so I'm not sure of the exact semantics. And I just want the option open for me for the future, in case... |

With the higher int you can design an even more powerful int boost. I believe that with infinite xp and gold your int would boost geometricly. |
| Vallentus10-23-07, 11:22 AM | This might not be an option for you, but one level of the Marshal class from MHB would allow you to add your Int again to Spellcraft. |

I believe that with infinite xp and gold your int would boost geometricly. You believe incorrectly +1 DC increase=+2 Int increase=+8 DC increase. You would max out at around 8/7 of your current int, plus a constant. |
| archerpwr10-23-07, 04:55 PM | You believe incorrectly +1 DC increase=+2 Int increase=+8 DC increase. You would max out at around 8/7 of your current int, plus a constant. Ah. Right. You'd have to use differently typed bonuses as well to keep it going. |
| BillTheManiac10-24-07, 10:42 AM | Ah. Right. You'd have to use differently typed bonuses as well to keep it going. I'd guess. That would be many, many different types, though. |
| lord_camber10-24-07, 01:25 PM | Does anyone know if you can use the spell Moment of Prescience spell for Epic spellcraft rolls? That would give you a +25 on your roll. |
| Taeldrin Laesrash10-24-07, 11:01 PM | Moment of Prescience will give you a flat +25 to the roll. It's great for these kind of things. |
| Sagetim10-29-07, 03:54 AM | There's a level 2 cleric spell that gives a +10 to skill checks or temporary proficiency with a weapon...can't remember the name, but it's in the magic of faerun book. I think it's competence though, so it wouldn't stack with your magic item of +30 ness. I'd suggest the magic item route. If you have money to burn, buy the things. you'll have somewhere in the +300 bonus from those alone. Then 38 ranks, 15 from feats mentioned above, 300 from the items, and say...15 from int score would net you enough to cast a vengeful gaze of god that doesn't do as much damage to yourself. (+368) I'd suggest investing in items that also boost your raw int score. Which would boost dc's, spells per day, and spellcraft. As well as knowledge arcana. However...you'll still only have 3 epics per day, since epic spells per day are based on ranks, not bonus. |
| Tshern10-29-07, 07:26 AM | Wands of Improvisation and Divine insight? |
| archerpwr10-29-07, 04:47 PM | Wands of Improvisation and Divine insight? Bingo. Note that improvisation is uncapped. |

| BillTheManiac10-29-07, 08:29 PM | Bingo. Note that improvisation is uncapped. Just please, please don't UMD a staff of inspiration, then set it to UMD. At least you can't work Consumptive Field, Greater into the build somehow. If you could it would probably be uncapped caster level. Nasty. |
| Tshern10-30-07, 08:54 AM | Bingo. Note that improvisation is uncapped. My point exactly. That is outright nasty, especially if you do it the way BillTheManiac posted... |
| BillTheManiac10-31-07, 10:37 AM | My point exactly. That is outright nasty, especially if you do it the way BillTheManiac posted... I believe someone combined that with a few other tricks (so many tricks they had to use thrallherd fusion, actually), to get +600/700 UMD. After that you can basically do anything. |
| Lord_of_Vain10-31-07, 03:21 PM | Ha ha, man, yea some of this stuff can get out of hand. |
| BillTheManiac10-31-07, 04:06 PM | Ha ha, man, yea some of this stuff can get out of hand. Not as bad as nanobots though. Train tracks: ::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::::DERA ILED! Anyways, absurd + to spellcraft items. +30 competence, +30 insight, +30 sacred, +30 profane, +30 luck, combined probably cost less then or comparable to +31 competence, and that's a +150 bonus. Then increase your competence one to an epic item. Then get intelligence, and a huge intelligence-boosting epic spell. |

After that you can basically do anything. I was trying to make a build to break the world record of UMD, which was at the time something like 218 by level 20. I lacked Divine insight and Improvisation, but I still got around 215, so achieving 600 at epic levels is quite feasible... |
| rob_douglas11-01-07, 01:34 PM | You can't have profane and sacred bonuses at the same time to anything. If you just feel like making up bonuses- why not just get +30 foo, +3 bar, +30 baz, +30 cool, and about an infinite number of other +30 named and unnamed bonus types. The rules for costing +30 at 90,000 are for competence bonuses to items - nothing else. The SRD shows the cost of Skill bonus (competence)=Bonus squared × 100 gp (e.g. Cloak of elvenkind). Under 3.0 rules, this was just Skill bonus - no type. And it was only 20gp time bonus squared. No where does it say what if anything the cost of any other type of bonus would be. Now the ELH says that something gets epic pricing if it "Grants an enhancement bonus on a skill check greater than +30." At the time they wrote that, nothing gave an enhancement bonus to a skill check. They were careless with their terminology, and it stayed broken. Because nothing in the SRD allows you to add an enhancement bonus to a skill. Competence was added as the bonus type in 3.5, and the ELH should be interpreted to mean the limit is for the competence bonus. even if you don't also cut the limit down to an actual limit that mimics the other change to skill boosting items in 3.5 from 3.0 - that they all got cut in half. You should also cut the limit before using epic pricing to 23 (because to create an item of +x you need x ranks in that skill, and you can only hae 23 ranks at 20th level), or 20 (because odd numbers that are not multiples of 5 rarely show up in skill items, and it is cleaner, and then for the reasons above about 20th level), or to 15 - because boots of striding and springing, cloak and boots of elvenkind, gauntlets of swimming, etc all dropped their skill boosts by 1/2. In any case, if you are going to use an item to grant silly bonuses, show where you are getting the rules for it. ROB |
| archerpwr11-01-07, 08:01 PM | You can't have profane and sacred bonuses at the same time to anything. Proof? In a game I was in one guy's schtick was stacking them. Neutral cleric. |
| Taeldrin Laesrash11-01-07, 08:41 PM | I swore the rules were in the DMG. Looking at the SRD, I'm guessing we're applying the same principle of the alternate-bonus rules for save-boosting items. |

Point still stands. Get all the +30 items possible, and one or two large epic items. +200 bonus, easy. |
