| rob_douglas03-23-07, 02:26 AM | HI I wanted to make a list of Contingencies that people might make. Note that almost any Epic Character can easily afford to have Contingency cast on him or herself. Wizards, Sorcerers from Scrolls or Limited Wish, Clerics from Miracle, anyone with decent Use Magic Device, or access to a Ring of Spell Storing, etc. So at some point it is just easiest to assume everyone has a Contingency up. (As a side note, who still allows Chain Contingency, a 9th level Wizard spell from Tome and Blood (and earlier editions) that has yet to be reprinted? (This would only be for Wizards and Sorcerers though I guess.) It allows 3 spells, I believe with only the one trigger, but I don't think that would matter.) So if people like I will update this first post with accepted ideas for Contingencies. Important issues are, what are good conditions, and what are good spells? I will start.... Break Enchantment/Dispel Evil/Good/Chaos/Law, or Greater Dispel if affected by any Enchantment/Charm spells, targetting that effect Heal if reduced to 1/4 hp or less, Greater Teleport/Word of Recall if incapacitated (this runs the risk of being blocked by Dimensional Lock/Anchor/Forbiddance) Please help add new ideas to the list. The Spell Mantle feat from Lost Empires of Faerun also allows you activate these contingent spells as a SLA. |

By the same measures, the Simbul's spell matrix spells also work. There's also translocation trick, switch places with someone if you can't deal with the problem. |
| Starmage2103-23-07, 11:57 AM | dont forget contingent resurrection spells, which can be damn useful. Being dead might not hurt much with an epic cleric in your party(casting free True Resurrection spells), but youre still outta the fight till he gets time to cast it(10min casting time). Contingent Resurrections(or whatever variation you have) can fix that! |
