Do you think this epic spell is reasonable? Free Armor [Archive] - Wizards Community

I read the section about epic spells in SRD (I have many books for Dungeons and Dragons, but not Epic Level Handbook). Do you think this epic spell is reasonable? Also, am I doing it correctly, or is there something wrong with the way I am creating these spells?

I also have another question about it. Is it possible to make it affect everyone in the area, and the area is the entire multiverse?

== Free Armor ==
Conjuration (Creation) [Force]
Spellcraft DC: 0
Components: V,S,XP
Casting Time: 15 days and 11 minutes
Range: Touch
Target: Creature touched
Duration: Permanent (D)
Saving Throw: Will negates (harmless)
Spell Resistance: Yes (harmless)

To Develop: Free. Seed: armor (DC 14). Factors: additional +1 bonus (+2),
permanent duration (x5). Mitigating factors: Burn 3000 XP during casting
(-30). increase casting time by 10 minutes (-20), increase casting time
by 15 days (-30).

This spell grants a creature additional armor, providing a +5 natural armor
bonus to Armor Class. Unlike mundane armor, the armor seed provides an
intangible protection that entails no armor check penalty, arcane spell
failure chance, or speed reduction. Incorporeal creatures can’t bypass the
armor seed the way they can ignore normal armor.

XP Cost: 3000 XP.

Your first poblem is that you're contradicting terms here. First you say that the spell grants a 'natural' bonus, but then go on to describe it as an 'armor' bonus like that granted by the Mage Armor spell.

OK, is there a second problem? Or third problem? Or a 19928939th problem?

Also: I also have another question about it. Is it possible to make it affect everyone in the area, and the area is the entire multiverse? (I think I have seen something like this somewhere, the area is absolutely everywhere, but with intermittent duration, can't remember where)

I don't see any fundamental problem other than you seem to be mixing up armor and natural armor.

However, I can't imagine any wizard ever casting this. Wizards are smart, casting this isn't.

Look at the costs: 3k XP and 15 days. The result can be dispelled.

You can accomplish the same thing by other means:

Bracers of armor +5. 25,000gp. Non-slot, 50,000gp. He can make it for 25,000gp and 2,000xp in 25 days. More likely he would use the time to earn money and simply buy it outright for 50,000gp.

50 days - you use base price 1000's to determine days.

As for the 0 DC - I am guessing you are thinking bigger and were
just using it as an example, planning something like +50 for a 0
cost. Again, it is dispellable in that case, but by the RAW you can
do it. Check with your DM though. I think it is a good idea to
impose a minimum DC for Epic spells - maybe equal to the base
seed DC.

can you really dispel a PERMANENT spell?

I mean, that seems to be ... stupid.

I dunno what the RAW says on this, but I thought that permanent spells (like those gained by the Spell Emanation feat) cannot be dispelled, but rather are suppressed for 1d4 rounds or something.

Otherwise, yeah, a permanent armor spell for 3000 xp is ... a really bad idea. someone made a psionic version of a mage armor spell that had a 0 DC and gave +20 ac for 24 hours ... i'd go with something like that regardless, anyway.

*sigh*

Yes. Yes, you can, by the RAW, by game balance, by flavor, by everything.

Word.

Maybe you're getting permanent mixed up with instantaneous, which can't be dispelled (except by the dispel seed).

It's not stupid at all.

The magic is still there having it's effect, it can be dispelled.

If you want something that truly can't be dispelled you need to actually alter the nature of the item itself rather than have a magic effect doing what you want. That's an instantaneous spell.

A permanent spell only means that the magic making the spell happen remains in place. Magic items are suppressed (unless disenchanted by disjunction). Permanent is a duration, just like 1 round/level, and can be dispelled.
