| dragons1206-21-07, 01:29 AM | i will be playing in a campaign that will be featuring 6 members that will have divine rank of 0 each of us will be working for a patron diety but for a common goal among the deities. we have 40 levels of any class that we can find. my character's patron diety is kord. my question is should look at kord's feats and abilities and vary my abilities slightly or should i follow suit in what he has as to show faith in the deity? if so would it be wise to also follow his class levels of 20 barbarian 20 fighter or should i vary it with in those two classes. this is the first time i have played a "hero diety" campaign thanx in advance |
| bluemage5506-21-07, 02:55 AM | Your character does not have to follow any constraints other than having an alignment within one step of Kord's. It is perfectly acceptable for a character to be significantly different from their deity in abilities (and this might actually make this character more useful, as they may provide skills that the deity may lack). If your goal is to emulate Kord, then you will most likely want to go straight barbarian. The Deities and Demigods book was published before the Epic Level Handbook, and as a result, none of the deities inside have more than 20 class levels (which is a mistake as it weakens them greatly). Kord would most likely be written up using primarily barbarian levels. |
| Phantos06-21-07, 03:44 AM | Page 26 of the Deities and Demigods book clearly mentions the Epic Level Handbook; are you sure it was published before the book was available? I agree that the deities are a tad underpowered, and rightly unbalanced, but I just wanted to point that out. |
| Bernat06-21-07, 04:43 AM | They mention it because they knew it was going to be released 3 months later. From product list (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndlist&brand=dnd&year=All&tablesort=1): Deities and Demigods (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/881650000) Accessory Dungeons & Dragons Skip Williams, Rich Redman, and James Wyatt 04/2002 Epic Level Handbook (http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=products/dndacc/881690000) Accessory Dungeons & Dragons Andy Collins, Bruce R. Cordell, and Thomas M. Reid 07/2002 IIRC, no deity uses epic feats or epic progressions. Back on topic. As bluemage said, you need not make a clone of your deity. Following Kord means, usually, that you share its phylosophy (or at least that's how I see it). You could even be a wizard with decent STR for its class who tends to cast spells like bigby's hand or tenser's transformation, for example. |
| Phantos06-21-07, 06:13 AM | Well, since this is the DR0 party thread, I guess I will ride it. How do you deal with DR 0 character upgrading? If I granted a divine rank of 0 to a party of four or five level 20 characters, would I automatically grant them specific stat bonuses or 20 levels in other character classes? The deity handbook doesn't seem to have rules for the template to apply to DR0 characters (not outsider stuff, since they ascended.) I checked Hercules thinking he'd fit the bill, but the stats were for him at DR8. |
| Bernat06-21-07, 06:40 AM | No stat bonuses or free levels. According to 3.5 rules for deities (http://www.roles.es/sovelior_sage_srd/divine.html), they would gain: - Max hit points per hit dice. - Base land movement 60' (assuming they are medium biped creatures). - Deflection bonus to AC equal to Cha bonus. - Immunity to polymorhphing, pretrification or any other attack that alters its form, energy drain, ability drain, ability damage, mind-affecting effects (charms, compulsions, phantasms, patterns and morale effects). All these are by-passed by a deity of equal or higher rank (abominations, for example, in the case of DvR 0 deities). - DR 10/epic. - Fire Resistance 5. - Spell Resistance 32. - Immortality (they don't age, eat, sleep or breathe). There are other side effects, like being immune to antimagic fields. |
| Phantos06-21-07, 07:25 AM | Sweet, thank you! |
| Starmage2106-21-07, 10:46 AM | i will be playing in a campaign that will be featuring 6 members that will have divine rank of 0 each of us will be working for a patron diety but for a common goal among the deities. we have 40 levels of any class that we can find. my character's patron diety is kord. my question is should look at kord's feats and abilities and vary my abilities slightly or should i follow suit in what he has as to show faith in the deity? if so would it be wise to also follow his class levels of 20 barbarian 20 fighter or should i vary it with in those two classes. this is the first time i have played a "hero diety" campaign thanx in advance If you wanna be like Kord, I think you should be a barbarian with legendary dreadnaught levels. Just seems like how Kord shouldve been built himself, and you can mess with DR ##/- in the high twenties, low thirties(basically when magic is the only thing that can harm you). That aside, what is the purpose of the DvR 0 in your campaign? Is it just to represent your characters having the "divine spark" or the fact that they have the epic repuatations and have ascended at least that far? It doesnt really matter as far as the stats are concerned, Im just curious. |
| dragons1206-21-07, 04:39 PM | that they have been granted the divine spark by their patron diety so that the diety itself can be free of certain obligations and turn its attention to other pressing matters that what we were told by the dm for the reason the pcs were given DvR 0. so now i am thinking 20 Bar then 10 fighter (for bonus feats) 10 bear warrior. the bear warrior for the true savageness of the character. i have already bought my gear and that by far surpasses kord's gear we are talking 25mil gold on weapon and armor alone and then a fewhundred thousand on other physical enhancements as well as inherent bonuses. |
| Taeldrin Laesrash06-21-07, 06:54 PM | I'd personally recommend going Barbarian 30/Fighter 10. You've already got an ability that boosts your combat stats from Rage, so focus on it with the Epic Barbarian feats. However, make sure you've got all the standard adventuring party bases covered; your god's classes aren't a requirement. What else is in your group? |
| dragons1206-21-07, 08:17 PM | druid/ranger of obid-hai cleric/fighter of pelor (me) barbarian/fighter of kord fighter/dwarven defender of moradin paladin/justicar of st cuthbert wizard/archmage of boccob thats the patron deities and the classes of the players as of now each of us is level 40 characters so we have 35 million gold to spend to include strongholds, personal gear, servants, mounts, and anything else we can think of that our characters might want. there is one rule about our money we mustspend at least 34,960,000 gold on what we want if we dont we lose the extra.like i have said before i have already spent 30 mil on personal gear alone. +28 weapon (15,680,000) and +39 armor (15,210,000) ring of regen, manual of bodily health +5, manual of gainful exercise+5, boots of springing and striding, amulet of health+6, bag of holding type 4, belt of giant str +6, and my armor is mithral. for a grand total of 3,338,580 gold left to spend above my 40,000 gold if anyone has any any suggestions on anything different please let me know. |
| Bernat06-21-07, 09:18 PM | I have no access to my books, but I think you are still needing some general utility items. Maybe some source of flying in case your wizard isn't able to provide you with, or a Ring of Freedom of Movement to prevent slowing. I do like Rings of Universal Energy Immunity (2'16Mgp for immunity to fire, cold, electricity, acid and sonic) too, as well as buying as many inherent bonuses as possible. I don't think you need a Ring of Regeneration (taking the epic feat Fast Healing or buying a Ring of Rapid Healing will heal you much more quickly, for lost limbs have your druid or cleric practice their spellcasting ;)). Also, if you pick Ioun Stones (http://www.roles.es/sovelior_sage_srd/epicFeats.html#additional-magic-item-space]Additional Magic Item Space[/url] or if your DM allows you to combine different magic items into one, you could sacrifice some of your armor's enhancement bonus and buy a Ring of Protection (combine with one of your existing magic items or occupy a 3rd ring slot) and an Amulet of Natural Armor. For the same price you will get a higher AC. Oh, and unless you're being heavily buffed, I would suggest a Cloak of Epic Resistance +10 (+10 resistance bonus to saves for 1Mgp). If the money you save from trading armor bonus for deflection and natural armor gives you enough money back, I would also remove the belt of giant str and amulet of health and get a pair of Bracers of Relentless Might (+12 enhancement bonus to STR and CON, and you are considered as being 2 steps larger for combat-related opposed checks). There are so many options and so many sources that I'm missing a lot of good items, but I hope this will help as a starting point. EDIT: Some other good things may be [url="http://www.roles.es/sovelior_sage_srd/magicItemsWI.html#ioun-stones). For 75k you get 4 stones in return that make you no longer need to breathe, eat or drink, gain +1 insight bonus to AC and +1 competence bonus to attack rolls, saves, skill checks and ability checks. |
| Taeldrin Laesrash06-21-07, 10:46 PM | I'd advise something to help out your saves. The standard Cloak or Vest of Resistance. Also, flight is very important, get Wings of Flying or a better customized item. You could also switch out the Boots of Striding and Speed for better Boots of Swiftness. (Also, to nitpick, no one in your party has the trapfinding ability. May not be important at that point, but just thought you should know. Dungeonscape have alternate class features that give both Rangers and Barbarians trapfinding ability.) |
| dragons1206-22-07, 01:22 AM | ok my will saves will be just as good as my fort saves because i will be taking a feat called steadfast determination and i am sure we all know what that does and besides who want a raging barbarian that has 30 lvls in the class runinng around attacking his allies cuz he is dominated. these are the feats that i have chosen 1 power attack 3 cleave 6 greatcleave 9 endurace 10 supreme cleave 12 steadfast determination 15 diehard 18 weapon focus great axe 21 weapon spec great axe 24 improved initiave 27 run 30 destructive rage 31 extra rage 32 leap attack 33 combat awareness 34 combat focus 36 combat vigor 36 combat stability 38 great fortitude 39 iron will 40 improved toughness i know i know only one is epic feat and i dont have improve crit but i have keen and my dm doesnt believe in the comfirm crit roll so anyways i just about got everything undercontrol so thanx for all your help |
| strenoth06-22-07, 09:51 AM | you missed a set of abilities.. at DvR 0, you no get 'immortality', and no longer need to eat, drink, sleep, or breathe. Immortality All deities (even those of rank 0) are naturally immortal and cannot die from natural causes. Deities do not age, and they do not need to eat, sleep, or breathe. The only way for a deity to die is through special circumstances, usually by being slain in magical or physical combat. Deities of rank 1 or higher are not subject to death from massive damage. |
| El_Machinae06-22-07, 11:38 AM | that they have been granted the divine spark by their patron diety so that the diety itself can be free of certain obligations and turn its attention to other pressing matters that what we were told by the dm for the reason the pcs were given DvR 0. Firstly, remember that your character cannot see Kord's character sheet. Emulating should be done with regards to personality, goals, and maybe favoured fighting styles. Secondly, Kord can handle his own fighting, and rather well at that. It seems that he might have Divine Sparked you guys in order to excel at something he wasn't really in the mood to do. He might not need another muscle-bound warrior, because he has friggen hoards of those. I don't have any specific suggestions, but including the themes of "uses greatswords" and "hunts dragons" might not be too bad. How about a Dragon-Slayer? An epic one of those could be really, really good at it. I also like WarChanter from Complete Warrior. Whilst you'll be a fairly awesome warrior, you'll make everyone else stupendously amazing. An epic WarChanter could make a tribe of peasants into something to be feared by all evil things. |
| rob_douglas06-22-07, 11:39 AM | ok my will saves will be just as good as my fort saves because i will be taking a feat called steadfast determination and i am sure we all know what that does I don't but I am guessing it lets you use your Fort save for your Will save? Does that inlcude CON bonus, or just base Fort save? and besides who want a raging barbarian that has 30 lvls in the class runinng around attacking his allies cuz he is dominated. DvR0 (i use the 'v' to differentiate from Damage Reduction (DR)) grants you immunity to mind-affecting effects.... these are the feats that i have chosen I thought you were human, which gives you another feat at level 1. You also should tell us what order you are taking your levels. It is weird that you are waiting to 18th to take Weapon Focus. Usually that comes in earlier. Weapon Specialization needs 4 fighter levels, so I assume that you will have those by then. You are taking a LOT of non-epic feats at epic levels. Improved Init is only a good idea if you are going to also take Dire Charge. Is Run a prereq for something? As for Great Fortitude and Iron Will - you should take the Epic version of each - they are better and don't have prereqs. Improved Toughness is a must unless your DM caps it like I do to 20hp (to make it non-epic) in which case take Epic Toughness. i know i know only one is epic feat and i dont have improve crit but i have keen and my dm doesnt believe in the comfirm crit roll so anyways i just about got everything undercontrol so thanx for all your help OK - I didn't read this part before I started my reply. If he doesn't use critical hits, then that isn't a problem. Keeps you out of needing to Devestating Critical. But you should definitely look at the Epic feats. Get all the "Rage" feats. And what about fighter bonus feats? You will get a bunch of those, including greater weapon focus for fighter 8 that will help. ROB |
| NilllMilll06-22-07, 01:09 PM | When i read the description of DvR 0 i seem to remember it saying that you normally have 1 high stat, not to say all the rest of your stats are bad, but that one is espically good. |
| dragons1206-22-07, 01:46 PM | steadfast determination lets you use your con modifier for your will saves and i have 10 fighter levelsand i do have improved toughness at lvl 40 to maximize its effect great fortitude and iron will as well as improved initiative are feats that are mandatory by the dm and to quote him " every character needs these three feats because without them the patron diety would not choose you for the divine spark and if you dont have the divine spark you have no place in this party." my str score is 35 before i rage and after 43 con is 36 and after 44 so i have 2 extremely high ability scores through magic. but i am playing a half orc so he would value a high str and con. |
| rob_douglas06-22-07, 01:49 PM | You mean this: usually have one or more ability scores that are far above the norm for their species. That means they could have more than one. I think it is fair to say that any 40th level adventurer is going to have more than one ability far outside the norm. I have been thinking about my own rules, and I was toying with requiring that all ascendent deities have +5 Inherent bonuses to all stats first. It does make it easy to assume they all already have that going for them. But does a god of Kobolds really need +5 WIS? Complete rules on DvR0 are here: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/divine/divineRanksAndPowers.htm#rank0 There is no particular bonus you get to any abilities for being a quasi-deity. There should be for other god levels. The Wizards FAQ on deities and demigods said what the standard array was that they used in creating the gods - and then bonuses based on divine rank. Let's see - remember this is DvR1 or higher. They have standard array of 35, 28, 25, 24, 24, 24. That amounts to +24, +18, +14, +14, +14, +14 to any ability scores. That is the racial bonus. To that add +1/4 class levels for leveling (none for 20 outsider HD), and +1 per divine rank. If you assume +5 inherent first, then the array becomes 30, 23, 20, 19, 19, 19, which is +20, +12, +10, +8, +8, +8. ROB |
| elondir06-22-07, 01:52 PM | This thread has a table I made for level adjustment due to divine rank. I used the Immortals Handbook: Epic Bestiary CR rules, which means the CRs are higher than normal (since CR != EL in that rule set). Add an additional 0.15 per hit die. It's roughly as powerful as the Paragon template. |
| TheYeti177506-25-07, 12:43 PM | A friend and I broke DR0 down into a 20 Level PrC, where you gain the powers over the 20 levels. We called it representing the 20 Outsider Hitdice you automatically gain upon achieving it. If your interested let me know, I have it all in an Excel file. Yeti |

You do not automatically gain 20 outsider HD when attaining DvR 0. If you look at ascended deities, none of them have outsider HD. |
