Dragon Magazine - Titan Article [Archive] - Wizards Community

06-13-07, 12:28 PM Is it just me or for a CR56 that Titan seems underpowered? I don't play Epic very often but even that being said, it just seemed not up to snuff with some of the stuff I read in this section.

I don't want to post too much given the issue just came out.

Seemed reasonably tough, but probably not CR 56... he'd probably easily wipe my 6-8 character 25-30th level party given his offense, but they've done that much damage to about that high AC before, and his SR is sad.

06-13-07, 08:17 PM SR should definitely be 62 - 32 for Titan, and +30 for class levels. Probably more for Advanced HD. Look - a Hound Archon gets SR bonus for class levels even though it isn't mentioned in the "as Character" section - see the Hound Archon paladin. Anything that grants SR should gain +class levels to it.

AC is really weak - he needs Improved Combat Expertise - so he can use 30 or more from BAB for defense as needed.

Looking forward to the idea anyway, but it goes to show you that even the publishers don't know what the Epic Rules are, or should be....

Just to me a normal 56th level party would wipe the floor with him.

06-14-07, 09:13 AM Well, given that the titan was advanced 30 class levels, I'd give it a +15 CR increase. Bringing it to around 38. Depending on how many racial HD it is advanced, maybe a couple more. The stats you post looks around a CR 37-44 to me, assuming SR is bumped up to fit the CR.

For Cronus, sure. But since the article is 'The Ecology of the Titan', I think that advancing and leveling a base Titan was the entire point of the stat block to begin with.

I'm personally just looking forward to reading the article in general. Titans AND the Demonomicon of Demogorgon? Sign me up for two, please.
