| Mandragore07-09-07, 05:05 PM | My character was 30th... Wiz 2 / Sor 1 / Rog 2 / Ftr 2 / Ultimate Magus 10 / Incantatrix 5 / Ardent Dilletante 4 and an ECL 4 for being a Pixie. So i had 16 level of Wizard... and wasn't elligible for epic spellcasting. Now... i'm 31 and that's another story. By taking a new level of incatatrix... and thus becoming a 17th level arcane caster... i'm now able to cast 9th level spells. So if i take the epic spellcasting feat... i'm now able to also research and cast epic spells. What i can't figure is how are the Seeds going ? Doi have to research those i want ? can i buy some sort of scrolls to learn them ? If another character has already developped an epic spell... how could he teach it to me ? and at what cost for each of us ? Thanks for clearing this up. Epic book is broken... and DM not at ease with epic spellcasting... but for now we want to keep it RAW. Thanks for you'r much awaited help. Regards. Mandragore. |

Therefore, all seeds are available to your character as long as they don't need a divine focus (1 level of cleric or druid is enough to use those seeds, as long as you have 24 ranks in spellcraft and either religion or nature). The only way I know of to learn epic spells is to have them scribed on stone tablets, which affects the DC. Also check out the Immortals Handbook: Epic Bestiary; they revamped the CR system so that it really does follow the "EL 2 higher = twice as difficult" concept. Using that system, Pun Pun is CR 24000 or so and is somewhere around EL 70! |
| Mandragore09-10-07, 04:31 AM | Ok. Back after some much awaited holydays... and ready to play my character again. So if i understand correctly... now that i am epic, i just "sort of" learned all possible seeds... and "just have" to research epic spells, or find someone willing to lend me her tablets... Don't remeber but i think i saw somewhere a rule you can use to cast epic spells just using the seeds as they are... without taking time to research the spell... As for the Healing seed... could having the Healing domain count for qualifying... even if i don't have any divine spell caster level ? Many thanks for you'r help. Mandy. |

That is one way to look at it. You know enough about magic to know that all magic has basic building blocks, and these "seeds" are a model of those building blocks. Don't remeber but i think i saw somewhere a rule you can use to cast epic spells just using the seeds as they are... without taking time to research the spell... No - you must research a specific epic spell, with specific effects based on the power that can be augmented from the seeds. You might be thinking of the rule that you can create or "deduce" new seeds from existing spells - say you have a spell that you can't find a good seed to mimic - you can make it into a seed for use in researching a spell. In reality your character is not creating the seed, but just learning it - but the player or dm is creating it from an existing spell. As for the Healing seed... could having the Healing domain count for qualifying... even if i don't have any divine spell caster level ? No, but by the RAW - if you have 24 ranks in Know-religion, you can use the Heal seed, even if you are an arcane caster. You can always use the seed for harming regardless. I however require you to be Divine as well as having 24 ranks to use Heal - but that is a house rule. If you adopt that house rule, then I would also allow access to the Healing domain to grant access. ROB |
