Interesting stuff: http://www.wizards.com/default.asp?x=dnd/drfe/20080428 This is in 3.5 rules, with some insights into 4E. It is nice to get some new Epic stuff, no? Interesting ideas - if you grant all your players Epic Destinies, they can have no cost, or they cost you your level feats but grant some great powers. I like the Demigod! :) ROB |
| Lecen_of_Mitran04-29-08, 09:12 AM | Although Iīve never played an epic game before, this is the best article Iīve seen at the website in years. They were capable of mixing very, very interesting fluff with some very nice crunch. Had they made this a year a go with a new Epic Level Handbook, things could have been different... maybe. Edit: I didnīt like the Nexus of Many Lives (The Warrior) from the Eternal Hero path. Gaining you have a +25 base attack bonus, a +11 Strength modifier, and a magic weapon with up to a +8 enhancement bonus and special properties equaling up to a total +5 bonus equivalent doensīt change much. A 30th lvl Fighter has already a BAB +25 and a +11 Strenght modifier is very easier at that level to get. I just didnīt get the +8 bonuses. Iīm brazilian so my english isnīt that amazing. Does it means that the weapon has a total of +13 enhancement bonuses (+8 plus a vorpal ability) or it has at most a +8 bonuses (+3 and a vorpal ability for example)????????? |
| rob_douglas04-29-08, 10:39 AM | I think they meant a total of +13 - +8 and +5 more, but you are right, it is not clearly written - it isn't your English. ;) While the fighter does have that, imagine if the Eternal Hero were a wizard. He is able to use the fighters abilities from a past incarnation. Still, the static bonuses do presume a certain power level that may not be relevant to some Epic games. ROB |

ROB I still donīt like it because itīs sounds great for a rogue or a bard or any other class with no full BAB progression. But for a Fighter? He fighst for 30 lvls to get what he already has? And the worse is that this path was cleary written with him in mind because no other destiny path looks like it was made for the Fighter. They could change that. They could do something like: "If you already has such stats, treat as +2" (So, a BAB of 25 would be 27, and a strenght score of 11 would become 13 for a Fighter). I hope they change that and make it more clear about the +8 or +13 bonuses to a weapon. Edit: And a full attack as a partial attack isnīt that great also. Alt level 30, the character may have got Pounce from another source like the Dire Charge Feat. |
| WotC_Logan04-29-08, 12:57 PM | It's assumed that your current character will fit one of the "many lives" listed here. So the fighter probably won't use The Warrior, but will use other three. The only significant benefit for the fighter on that attack is having an alternate set of weapon special properties. |
| Frozen_Flame04-30-08, 08:32 AM | I agree with the others about the Nexus of Many Lives, but I personally think that the features might make up for it. Continual Resurrection means you get an infinite lives cheat, returning to resurrect the party to and try again. Quickening is better then fast healing (giving hp above your max, and stacks with it too). And Eternal Renewal keeps you from dieing (and gives you half you max hp, which is combined with Quickening) twice per day. All in all I think the whole idea is great. Edit: The force of natures' abilities are over complicated, I didn't understand what am I supposed to do to the character. |
