| CelestialBarbarian03-16-07, 07:59 PM | Is there an epic order of the bow progression somewhere? I know that Dragon 297 had an epic bow master prestige class. Has that been updated to 3.5 anywhere? Thanks. :) |

| CelestialBarbarian03-18-07, 01:02 AM | I don't know if there's an Epic Order of the Bow Initiate. The Master of the Order of the Bow, though, seems fine for 3.5 play already. It would need to be converted to 3.5. The most obvious change would require replacing the ranged sneak attack bonuses with ranged precision bonuses. Without comparing the 3.0 and 3.5 versions of the OBI side by side, I'm not sure offhand what other changes might be required. I was hoping that maybe someone had made the changes already. Does anyone know if the Master of the Order of the Bow appears in the Dragon Compendium, which supposedly converts old Dragon articles to 3.5? Thanks. :) |
| Taeldrin Laesrash03-18-07, 12:49 PM | I have that too. Nope, it's not converted. |
| CelestialBarbarian03-18-07, 08:50 PM | I have that too. Nope, it's not converted. Thanks. Yeah, I downloaded the table of contents and saw that Dragon Compendium 1 didn't have an updated Master of the Order of the Bow. To update it I'd probably make the following changes: 1. Replace each ranged sneak attack +1d6 with ranged precision +1d8. 2. Replace the d10 hit die with a d8 hit die. 3. Since the old ranged sneak attack worked with Shot on the Run, but the new ranged precision doesn't, drop Shot on the Run as a prerequisite for the class. Replace Shot on the run with the Sharpshooting feat, which the OBI grants. 4. The 3.0 OBI granted a benefit called superior weapon focus. The 3.5 OBI replaces superior weapon focus with Greater Weapon Focus. The 3.0 Master of the Bow required either Epic Weapon Focus or superior weapon focus. Change this requirementn to Greater Weapon Focus. 5. The 3.0 OBI granted a benefit called superior weapon specialization. The 3.5 OBI simply drops superior weapon specialization. The 3.0 Master of the Bow required either Epic Weapon Specialization or superior weapon specialization. Change thisi requirement to either Epic Weapon Specialization or Greater Weapon Specialization. 6. Drop Improved Sneak attack from the list of bonus feats available to the Master of the Order of the Bow. 7. Add a new feat to the list, called Improved Ranged Precision. Improved Ranged Precision [Epic] You do more damage than normal with your ranged precision attacks. Prerequisites: Ranged precision class ability. Benefit: Add +1d8 to your ranged precision damage. Special: You may take this feat multiple times. Its effects stack. |
| SokenzanMarauder03-18-07, 09:20 PM | Very nice update CelestialBarbarian! Shame that a Wind Wall still stops them in their tracks, maybe grant them an ability at later levels that allows their arrows to fly through them without being affected? It might be a bit overpowered even if it is situational to the extreme. -Gene |

I could perhaps see a special ability that allows a limited number of arrows per day to penetrate a wind wall. But doesn't the arcane archer already have an ability that allows it to essentially teleport arrows through things? |
| SokenzanMarauder03-19-07, 10:42 AM | Thanks very much, Sokenzan! No problem. :) I could perhaps see a special ability that allows a limited number of arrows per day to penetrate a wind wall. But doesn't the arcane archer already have an ability that allows it to essentially teleport arrows through things? Yes, phase arrow. Its description however is somewhat vague on what a Wind Wall would do. It that it travels through non-magical barriers, but a Wall of Fire or Wall of Force stops it in its tracks. Wind Wall is 'technically' a magical affect, but it's just wind so I would argue that it would go right through it. Still though, it's only once per day. But how often do you really fight a wizard that has chosen spells specifically to screw you over? Cheers, -Gene |

Anyway, I'm not sure that I'd give master of the order of the bow a phase arrow ability, but as the archer isn't likely to go it alone, there's probably someone else in the party who can either dispel the wind wall or teleport the archer through it. For that matter, can't you just walk through one? |
