| Karsus the Mad05-23-07, 07:59 AM | I've been trying to work on an epic PrC for a character conversion from another game system. The theme is runes, obviously:) Critique? Better ideas? RUNELORD Hit Die: d6. Requirements To qualify to become a runelord, a character must fulfill all the following criteria. Skills: Craft (any suitable for inscribing runes) 24 ranks, Knowledge (arcana) 24 ranks, Spellcraft 24 ranks Feats: Inscribe Rune, Inscribe Epic Rune, Epic Spellcasting Spells: Able to cast 9th level divine spells. Class Skills The runelord's class skills (and the key ability for each skill) are Appraise (Int), Concentration (Con), Craft (Int), Knowledge (arcana), Knowledge (religion) (Int), Knowledge (the planes) (Int), Profession (Wis), Spellcraft (Int), and Use Magic Device (Int). Skill Points at Each Level: 2 + Int modifier. Table: The Runelord Level Special 1st Runification 2nd Runic Transcription 3rd Epic Rune Crafting 4th Runic Absorption 5th Epic Rune Artisan Class Features All of the following are features of the runelord epic prestige class. Weapon and Armor Proficiency: Runelords gain no proficiency with any weapon or armor. Runification (Ex): Upon becoming a runelord, a character can use the Inscribe Rune feat to inscribe runes upon his body. A runelord can have a number of runes equal to his Con modifier at any given time. Epic Runecrafting: Beginning at 3rd level, a runelord is capable of creating runes that contain spells of epic power. Instead of developing an epic spell and adding it to his list of epic spells known, a runelord can instead inscribe the epic spell upon any suitable surface. However, any epic rune inscribed in this manner does not impart it's knowledge to those who read it. It instead holds the power, releasing it only upon those that meet the triggering conditions. Any epic spell developed for the purpose of creating an epic rune must have the contingent (+25) and inscribe (x2) factors included. Epic Rune Artisan (Ex): At 5th level, a runelord gains the ability to develop epic runes with less expense in time and resources. When determining the cost of raw materials for researching an epic spell to be used for an epic rune, multiply the Spellcraft DC by 7,000 gp instead of the normal 9,000 gp and reduce the development time and XP accordingly. Runic Transcription (Sp): A 2nd level runelord gains the ability to "pick up" and transfer runes (inlcuding symbol and glyph spells) as the transcribe symbol spell. A runelord is able to use this ability 3/day + 1 per runelord level. Runic Absorption (Ex): A 4th level runelord gains a Rune Creation XP Pool and the ability to absorb runes (inlcuding symbols and glyphs) to harvest the power held within. The process requires successfully using his runic transcription ability. If successful, the runelord can add a number of points to his rune creation XP pool equal to one-half the XP required to create the rune, symbol, or glyph. If the rune, symbol, or glyph had no XP cost to create, he instead gains a number of XP equal to the gp value divided by 50. A charged rune that isn't fully charged only contributes a proportional amount of XP. The power harvested from such activity contributes only to the runelord's rune creation XP pool, not to his normal XP total, and can only be used to lower the XP cost of his Inscribe Rune and Epic Runecrafting ability. There we go.... |

| Karsus the Mad05-24-07, 09:48 PM | Good job man ;) Thank:) I'm pretty annoyed with the lack of rune based arcane characters. And I'm seriously annoyed with FR's restriction of "runecrafting". I've always loved the idea of an entire mountain (or an entire mountain chain) being one giant rune of epic proportions. |
