Just want to get acouple things cleared up...

A spellcaster who can cast epic spells has a number of open epic spell slots per day equal to one-tenth his or her ranks in the Knowledge skill appropriate to the spell and the caster’s class.

Does this mean having say, 25 ranks in knowledge arcana allows me to LEARN up to 2 epic spells? Or able to cast 2 epic spells per day?

If its per day, this confuses me
A spellcaster can prepare or cast any epic spell he or she knows as many times per day as he or she has available epic spell slots

If it is only 2 epic spells known, that would be nice.. Then I have to find acouple good ones, and find some ways to raise my Spellcraft (its currently 30 at level 22)

You get 2 epic spell slots. However, this does not give you any epic spells known. You still have to research them the old-fashioned way.:)

And there is no limit to how many epic spells you can research, so long as you have the resources.

Still slightly confused... Doesnt epic spell capacity give you epic spell slots?

Nope, they can give you lv10+ slots, but those must be used to hold normal lv1-9 spells, augmented with metamagic feats as you deem fit.

Epic spells are only treated as 10th lv for purposes of mechanics interaction. You cannot use slots granted by the ISC feats to hold them. They are governed by their own set of rules.:)

Thus, you cannot use ISC bonus slots to hold epic spells, just as you cannot use epic spell slots to hold quickened chain lightning spells.

If thats how it is... Is it even worth it? I mean investing in a few feats to boost your spellcraft to a DC thats worth using epic spellcasting. Along with the xp and time loss.. then only being able to do it 2-3 day? And does that mean you cannot buff them up via metamagic?

Epic spellcasting can be very powerful if you know how to use it properly. However, it requires a large amount of dm intervention as it can be readily abused.

It's most popular use is to create long-duration buff spells which use increased casting times to lower its dc. Important as the dc is what determines its cost and ease of casting. For example, take the epic mage armour spell from the ELH and increase its casting time to 10 minutes. This should lower its dc to 28? Or create an epic spell which gives you a +16 enhancement bonus to int for just dc27.

This is just the tip of the iceberg. See the discount epic spell thread for more inspiration.:)

Just wondering.. Is their any other books that epic spells DC's (things to do with the DC's at least) are printed in? never really took a look but I'll search through them if there are... I want to make a blaster spell or something cool

For a blaster spell, my suggestion would be to mix a Dispel seed with the negative level bestowing version of the Heal seed. Drop their resistance to negative energy and then drain half their levels with one simple spell. Buffs really seem to be the best use of epic spells, though, since 60 hour durations mean you can have about 5-6 buff spells running at any given time, even if you only have 2 slots a day.

I think the energy: weather seed can be used to increase the range of any spell to a 2-mile radius(and subsequent range increases use that as the base multiplier) for a cheap +19dc.:P

Epic spellcasting made me a god. You can't ask fairer than that.

To clear up any confusion relating spell SLOTS with spells KNOWN:

The number of spell slots at any given level has absolutely nothing to do with the number of spells known at that level. When the ELH stated that you get a number of epic spell "slots" equal to 1/10 your "ranks" in your respective Knowledge, it is not saying anything about you knowing epic spells. If you choose to spend the insane gold and XP costs for an epic spell, then you can cast it a number of times per day as detailed.

Also, boosting your total Knowledge check modifier via feats or items will not change the number of epic spell slots available, as it states that it is dependant on your "ranks" in the skill, not your total check. Assuming you have max ranks in your given Knowledge skill, the number of epic spells per day you can have at any given level is the following:

Character Level (max ranks) = Number of Epic Spell Slots

21st (24) = 2
27th (30) = 3
37th (40) = 4
47th (50) = 5
...etc...
