| Nezkrul03-23-08, 12:31 AM | The DM ok'd this as is, I was just wondering what people think about it or if I did something wrong. I used the SRD's rules for making it, and added an ad hoc mitigation factor that I felt was balanced, as did my DM. Opinions are appreciated though. Dissolution Seed: Destroy Transmutation Spellcraft DC: 100 Components: V, S, F Casting Time: 1 standard action Range: 200 ft. Area: 200' cone Duration: Instantaneous Saving Throw: Fortitude half (DC 30 + ability mod) Spell Resistance: Yes This spell disintegrates all unattended non-living or inanimate material in its area (unattended magic items get saving throws), and deals 25d10 damage to any creature in its area (Fort DC 30 + ability mod for half), totally disintegrating any creature reduced to -10 hitpoints or lower (their equipment was attended at disintegration, so it is spared); any thing not totally disintegrated will likely fall into a cone shaped hole created by this spell (assuming part of its area included the ground) and take falling damage, sliding all the way to the end of the cone's area unless they can make climb/balance/tumble checks (DC upto the DM), sustaining more falling damage when they hit the end "wall". The focus for this spell is a crystal rod grown from the compression of dust from disintegrated creatures and objects, worth 200,000 gold pieces. 1 standard action Casting Time (+20 dc), Change from Target: to Area: 40' cone (+10 dc), +400% area (+16 dc), Increase saving throw by +10 (+20 dc), Increase damage die to d10 and add 5 dice (+30 dc), Add Component: Arcane (or Divine) Focus worth atleast 20,000 gold pieces (-2 dc), Costly Material Focus- a crystal rod grown from ectoplasm and the compression of dust from disintegrated creatures and objects, worth 200,000 gold pieces (-18 dc), 5d6 Backlash Damage (-5 dc); Costs to Develop- 900,000 gold pieces, 18 days, 36,000 experience points + cost of focus. |

| Frozen_Flame03-29-08, 07:56 AM | If you can reach that DC, I have only one thing to tell you: Have fun. It is kind of high... EDIT: sorry for the double post. |
| Kayoz_Majick03-29-08, 04:36 PM | I don't think that everyone is taking into consideration all of the falling damage that will be involved either. The 25d10 damage is just the initial. depending on how the rod is aimed, assuming horizontal, anyone standing at the bad end of the rod, towards the back of the area effect, is going to be falling at least 100', and then hitting the back wall, taking that much more damage. ALSO, the spell is saving, or at least allows saving throws, for all of he unattended loot that the PC doesn't know about: free stuff! I would say that the spellcraft DC is a bit high, but not terribly so like some think. Maybe a 80-90 range or something would be nice... Another thought: you will not be making friends very easily with the nature people when you go running around blasting away large swaths of their land! ;) |
| Nezkrul03-31-08, 01:45 AM | my character is adventuring in limbo. no one will miss what I disintegrate. |
| Old_Troll03-31-08, 09:56 AM | I feel that it is spot on. A spell with that DC is going to wipe out most unattended magic items as well as large portions of castles, underground lairs and massed badie underlings. After you create it, you should hire your self out as as an excavator for those that want a roomy lair quickly! Though I do feel for your DM. |
| Nezkrul04-03-08, 07:42 PM | After you create it, you should hire your self out as as an excavator for those that want a roomy lair quickly! lol, see what is really the kicker, im combining this spell with my Disintegration Finesse feat, from Lords of Madness. You basically summed up one of the best reasons I made the area a 200' cone :) |

I am sorry, but that is weak for a DC of 100. Maybe my idea of it being final at 45 is a too low but 100 is definatly too high. How about a final DC of about 65 or so? I'll look through my epic spells and post one that one of my players made up. It will be a couple days though before I find it. ( all of our files are over at the current DM's house). |
| Nezkrul04-08-08, 04:06 PM | Um, I can't magically MAKE the dc lower... I've used the mitigation rules as posted in the ELH/Updated material on SRD. This spell, as is, is actually a higher DC without the homebrew mitigation factor. I suppose I could make the area smaller, it starts out as a 40' cone normally, but that just seemed rather small to me. Don't get me wrong, I know how to utterly BREAK the epic spellcasting system. That's not the goal here, as my DM banned everything required to break it. |

| setekh04-09-08, 06:59 AM | He still has players right? I'm gonna go ahead and guess that not everyone wants to break the game over their knee and make it squeal like a piggy. Just a guess though. |
