Epic Spell - Time in days? [Archive] - Wizards Community

03-12-07, 08:51 PM So if I make a spell that takes days to cast -- for purposes of Mitigating the DC, obviously. I.e. a permanent anti-magic barrier around a fortress so that no spells can go through it -- and i make the casting 100 days...what do I do for those 100 days, in game?

I realize it doesn't matter mechanically, but I'm wondering what I'm allowed to do in that time -- do I spend 8 hours a day casting, and i can't do _anything_ the rest of the day except eat/sleep/converse, or what?

03-12-07, 09:17 PM It's not explained explicitly, but from the flavor described here and there regarding epic spells and mythals, it appears that you would stand and cast continuously in a trance-like state.

Food, drink, and sleep requirements don't seem to be present during such castings.

03-13-07, 01:07 AM I'd say you're casting the whole time, in a trance, as Bluemage says. However, I disagree that your physical requirements are suspended. You'll die of thirst before you starve to death, of course, but even so you'd do well to arrange for such needs before you begin. A ring of sustenance is pretty much required for the longer spells.
