Feats or PrC's? [Archive] - Wizards Community

10-20-07, 07:20 PM My group and I are starting what will probably be our final 3.5 game. We are pulling out all the stops and playing a gestalt campaign slated to go into epic. Yes, we literally have to save the world.

I'm making what I have been referring to as the "Ultimate Arcanist." It's Wizard/Sorc with UM to advance them both and then probably continuing UM in Epic. I'm going to use ET to keep the caster levels for all three advancing where necessary. My question is should I try to find another 10 level PrC so I can advance it for more bonus feats or should I rely on Epic Prestige Classes like the Netherese Arcanist and the Arcane Lord? I haven't really played much epic so I don't know which will end up being more important. Any guidance would be appreciated.

10-20-07, 07:34 PM Epic feats are really nice. Epic UM would probably give 1/3 or 1/4 levels and some advance in sorcerer casting.

10-20-07, 07:39 PM Yeah I'm planning on taking UM epic on one side. See I'm allowed to PrC on both sides if I want, and I can take dual-advancing PrC's if I want. UM is definitely one side of the epic build, the question is, what is the other side? I looked at the anima mage/binder idea and lots of binding don't do much for dedicated casters. Maybe I'm just inexperienced with binding. The Truenamer doesn't have a Mystic Theurge-esque class, so that is pretty much out.

Anima mage would be great to progress warlock.

10-21-07, 01:16 PM I'm aware that in traditional gestalt, I can't. However, I noted in my original post I'm explicitly allowed to take "dual-advancing PrC's." I figured that covered the UM.

I read the vestiges and most of them seemed to relate to slugging it out with people. What vestiges would be appropriate for the primary spellcaster/resident squishie?

I just realized something: It's not actually that bad at epic. Wizard 20//Cleric 10/Mystic Theurge 10 is just 30th level wizard casting, which is a +10 increase in caster level only. Use Holy Word-type spells.

Isn't the point of Anima Mage that you lose the benefits of vestiges? I thought you were binding Naberius, anyways.
