In the campaign I'm doing right now, communication with the gods has ceased, for the most part on the material plane. I made a "God of War", a half-ogre barbarian that given his soul to primal artifacts that created the prime material. I see him as Nezgull or Spawn kind of character. Now, I want him to have a ECL of around 50 to make him untouchable to all but the strongest of characters. I'm going with 30 Barbarian/10 Berserker/10 War Hulk but I'd welcome a more creative build. The one stipulation I want to make is that he wields a massive executioner's axe.

Well, my first question is: is he actually a god, or is that merely a title?

It's merely a title. Since all the gods have mysteriously disappeared, godhood can longer be granted. Since he wields a "god item" (the giant executioners axe) but is not a god he bound to the item's will, in this case, destroy everything on the plane.

I'd say try some Warblade levels and then Bloodstorm Blade... You could even go with a big scythe.

PS: This guy sounds more like Azeroth from the Soulcaliber games than he does Spawn.

Zasalamel you mean (The dude that totes a massive scythe). Or Asteroth (Huge axe).

As for the NPC, I'd say throw in some levels in Bear Warrior just for the transformation, scent could be useful too. If you're singly for a Big Guy with a Bigger Axe type build I'd say take a few levels in Ravager for the Fear Aura, gives him that 'I'm bigger than you, fear me." type effect.

Epic Big-Guy-Bigger-Axe?? Half-Giant(Non-psionic, no LA) Wield Oversized Weapon, Heavy Greataxe. Medium Character, Deals damage as though he were Gargantuan (add Enlarge Person to mage it colossal)... And you can use that on a lot of builds.
BTW, Powerful Build treats the Wielder as 1 Size larger for wielding purposes. WOW treats the Weapon as 1 Size smaller for wielding purposes, they stack.

It was updated in Complete Warrior for 3.5. It was in the ELH originally.

It was not originally in the ELH. It was first printed in an Epic Insights article, Epic Level Combatants.
