| ScottTheGR8111-01-07, 11:34 AM | Ok I will be in an upcoming game set at 25 level. I will be playing a wizard. How high can I get a spellcraft DC for crafting epic spells. I know I can only cast 2 a day due to my rank limit(whichever skill it is based off of) Could I theoretically use a lower DC spell to raise my Intelligence that has a low duration then cast another spell that last slightly longer etc. In order to build up my INT score? Or, would that be to cheesy? Instead I could use ritual casters, via my epic leadership followers to help cast a better spell and mitigate the DC lower. The balancing factor being that if I don't have access to my followers I can't cast the spells. To me the latter sounds better for long duration spells, maybe even permanent ones.... I would love to have a mythal built with the help of my followers and cohorts that protected my stronghold and small town/city. Help developing these ideas and spells would be greatly appreciated. Oh and please no homebrew seeds sand such please try to stay by the books. thanks. |

There are already several good answers to this question, the best of which being an array of custom +30 circumstance/luck/insight/competence bonus-to-spellcraft items. |

| BillTheManiac11-02-07, 07:24 AM | That seems like too cheap of a tactic, I don't want to abuse the rules if I can help it. Epic ability-boosting spells are way cheaper, though. Getting lots of items is the point of epic. |
| ScottTheGR8111-02-07, 09:52 AM | Well, the items I can see the use for them. But its just the stacking of all those various names that I am hesitant to do. Maybe I will only use a few. How much would they cost and would they all be on all of the body slots or on one(how is that possible? isn't there a rule for doubling the cost of the most expensive item then adding the others on to it? ) |
| BillTheManiac11-02-07, 07:08 PM | +30 (90,000) x2 for the wierd bonus ones x2 for slotless Total: 360,000 gp for an odd +30 ioun stone. |
| ScottTheGR8111-02-07, 08:21 PM | oh! duh:embarrass its just the rules from the dmg.....i feel dumb..:( :embarrass thanks for answering such an obvious question. lol:D |
| Tequila_Sunrise11-03-07, 03:03 AM | You might want to check with your DM about all those item bonuses. Some DMs consider getting a bajillion small-bonus items to be "the point of epic levels" but other DMs do consider it very cheesy. Ditto with boosting Spell Craft for the purpose of casting epic spells. |
| runestar11-03-07, 09:59 AM | Spellcraft dcs are for most part irrelevant. There is no point cranking your spellcraft score to say, +100, if you lack the resources to research epic spells of said dc anyways. As epic spellcasting stands now, it is generally more cost-effective to research long duration buff spells (using ritual and casting time-increase mitigating factors to crank their dcs down as low as possible). This helps in keeping down the gp/xp cost, research time and the spellcraft check you need to muster up. For instance, you could take the leadership feat and attract a whole load of adept followers, letting you get -100+ dc to your epic spells. Then proceed to research epic mage armour, extend its casting time to 10 minutes for another -18DC, increase its radius to area so it can affect your entire party, the duration to 1-week+ so you don't need to refresh it ever so often, and the AC bonus granted just high enough such that the final spellcraft dc is zero (that is the cheapest it can get). Then do the same for stat-boosters. Because each spell will have a duration of 7+ days, while your epic slots recharge every day, you should have no problem maintaining 10+ epic buffs on your entire party at any 1 time.:) |
| ScottTheGR8111-03-07, 10:04 AM | Well I intend to only do it once most likely. Maybe twice. And also develop some ritual epic spells using my followers and cohorts to help lower the DC. But this sorcerer is not going to be in any way built to be as powerful as possible. I could have played a wizard and with one feat been receiving INT bonus+2 spells per level in known spells(minimum of 6 at level 1!). But, I am playing a sorcerer instead one that will be alot more fun to play than the wizard. For one thing he will fight occasionally in melee(by way of a magical sword with several uses per day of tensar's transformation and other combat spells.) And his huge amount of followers(thanks to several feats) will totally rock the house. He will have a cool stronghold(gotta love stronghold builders guide) in what will soon become his own city(and eventually his own kingdom, or I should say mageocracy) |
| ScottTheGR8111-03-07, 10:08 AM | Well I will do that to some extent runestar, but I don''t want to get too carried away with throwing around all those epic spells. But yeah I will do that to a degree, hey maybe more i don't know yet.... |
| rob_douglas11-05-07, 11:57 AM | I don't think the point of epic is getting lots of items. Imagine how long those items will last when you get hit with an MDJ or two every round. That's why the gods don't just carry lots of items - but only a few artifacts. ROB |
