| BigGus12-20-07, 09:42 PM | OK, I know from the ELH FAQ that a specialist wizard gets a bonus spell slot when he gets a new spell level via ISC. But does a cleric get a domain spell slot when they take ISC? |
| runestar12-20-07, 09:49 PM | I suppose they should as well.:) |
| BigGus12-20-07, 10:29 PM | Yeah, I thought they probably should myself. Anyone know for sure? |
| Tequila_Sunrise12-21-07, 12:21 AM | Well I'm not normally the one to quote rule passages and spout strict legalise interpretations of them, but if ISC doesn't mention domain spells then that would mean that no, it does not "officially" grant more domain spells. It is certainly arguable that it should do so, but consider that domain spells are pretty narrow in selection so one cleric with extra domain slots could get a whole lot more awesomeness out of them than another cleric with different domains. |
| BigGus12-21-07, 07:51 AM | ISC doesn't mention Specialist wizard bonus spells either, but in the FAQ it says they get them. I was wondering whether there'd ever been a ruling on this one, but it doesn't look like it. Maybe I should send the question to WotC (I know a lot of people say CustServ is rubbish, any suggestions as to who I should ask?). |
| Tequila_Sunrise12-21-07, 03:15 PM | I've never gotten a useful answer out of anyone at custserv; is there any particular reason you need an "official" ruling? (isn't the FAQ technically not official?) |
| BigGus12-22-07, 01:26 PM | The reason I wanted to know is that I'll be putting my own "epic fixes and variants" thread up here when I eventually get it finished, and I was trying to finalise the variant class progressions, and realised I didn't know whether their domain spells continued or not. So it doesn't really have to be an official answer; if there's a community consensus on it that'd do, but it doesn't appear that there is (since only two of you have replied, one saying probably yes, one saying probably no...). If no-one else replies I'll just have to decide for myself, I suppose. |
| Avatar of Kokusho12-23-07, 07:29 AM | I think that since a specialist recieves bonus slots for ISC, then a cleric should recieve a bonus slot where she can prepare a domain spell, metamagic'd or not. Only seems fair to me. |
| BigGus12-23-07, 07:11 PM | I asked this question over on dicefreaks and they suggested I look at the NPC cleric in the ELH, and they don't get extra domain spell slots, so it looks like the answer is no. |

Not a really meaningful answer, IMO. Ssass Tam does not get any bonus necromancy bonus slots for his 10th and 11th spell slots, even though the FAQ clarifies otherwise.:P |

I thought I had the answer there, I should have known it wouldn't be that simple. Unless anyone else has any suggestions, I'm going to assume that they don't get the domain spell slots, as including the votes cast on dicefreaks, the noes have it so far. More epic fixes, eh? I'll be looking out for it. Yeah, it'll probably be another week or two before I get it finished (every time I think I've sorted something out, a new question always appears, as this thread illustrates) but I'll look forward to hearing what you think of my answer to the whole "how to make epic work" question. |
| rob_douglas12-25-07, 01:02 PM | I also go with NO - they don't get domain slots, but have been through the same investigations you did trying to find out for sure. I finally decided that even though specialist wizards get them, they are still giving up their chosen barred schools, so it continues to be a balance. Of course granting them means more uses for metamagic for clerics, and could get creative. No one would prepare Intensified Holy Smite much otherwise. But it make a nice enough 11th level domain slot. It does encourage more creativity. :) ROB |
