Before the epic game last night, I was playing a different character for 2 sessions, decided I didn't like it

I scrapped my old epic character, and I came back as a monk12 drunken master 14 , and I legitmently killed a god... Though not in the typical way. I did a crapload of damage to her in mellee, so she altered reality to attach her head to my shoulder, and took over my body. Opposed will saves. Well you can imagine that going well, considering I rolled a 6 and got a 44, and she got a 82.
So I tried to will myself to make my arm consume more alcohol (I had a glassteel ogre magi mug of endless ale), and the dm was thinking "what harm is there in this" so she(he the dm) actually let me do it, Well the only reason why I was concious was I had an incarnium soulmeld that absorbed 2 ability damage every time I took ability damage, and when you are drunk you take 2 ability damage per drink, so I took none... my soul was drunk and I acted very drunk (even sober drunken masters seem drunk all the time)...
Well... the arcane caster had a targeted greater dispel magic on me (chaotic neutral wildmage with childish personality that had no idea what would happen in character, even though out of character knew what would happen after I whispered it) He explained his reasoning as "oh sh-t lolth and Will are magically combined, greater dispell magic".
I went into a coma due to my extraordinary ability maxing the alcohol penalty to -28 int and -28 wisdom.... not enough to actually kill me, but comatose.... Normally shes immune to both ability damage, and poison, but she was in my body, not hers, and her nervious system wasn't trained like mine, so she didn't have drink like a demon.
Considering in the last hour I had over 200 drinks of dwarven ale mixed with drow knockout poison, which puts the dc at 227 on the last drink assuming exactly 200, and she starts failing saves at 82 (20 on her roll every time, but not auto success, except on attack roll), and its a dc 25+2 per drink, thats -286 to intelligence and wisdom for her, and -28 for me. I still had a positive wisdom score, and my int dropped to 0. I wasn't dead, just in a coma.
She was.... well it would take 286 days for her to wake up from that coma, assuming I took the ring I was wearing off (stopped me from digesting alcohol, based off of ring of sustenence), assuming we only counted this hours drinks.
If we count the amount of drinks I had since I got the thing (in character), thats probably about 100 drinks per hour for the last 10 years, and due to my ring of drunkenness/sustenence, I sleep 2 hours a night, thats 8034400 drinks, and -16068800 to her int and wisdom, resulting in her waking up in 44024 years, assuming she started with int and wisdom of 0. Since she didn't, adjust that by whichever is lower, in days being subtracted from that total.

I understand that its questionable of strongheart vest can prevent the ability damage of drunken master. Even more questionable is if I do negate it, do I negate the bonus. There is a simple way of explaining that one. I got my soul drunk. Don't question me on this one detail, just wanted to share a little story, see if anyone had any comments, or simular or even completely unrelated amusing stories.

Yes I did have the essentia to dump into the soul meld, instead of dodge, I took midnight dodge.

So yeah. The DM awarded the party with divine rank 0. Not that I should have one, but I specifically requested the dm to give me a salient divine ability. The ability I requested was to have 3 times my drunken master level to profession bartending, craft woodworking, craft glassblowing, and craft alchemy
So I got that.
As gods also get max hit dice rolls, my hp went up by 35, and as gods gain 30 movement speed, my movement speed went up to 170 (was 140), which pushed my jump check to be 114.

Oddly, I'm the only one in the party with a skill mod on anything above 37. The DM wtfs whenever I jump instead of using my flyspeed = to landspeed (perfect) (that phoenix cloak from magic item compendium). Which is mostly constantly. Also whenever I need to just stay still in the air, I use my winged boots (DMG) to just go back and forth, instead of the phoenix cloak. The phoenix cloak to my character is an "oh sh-t" item.

I love the run and leap of the heavens feats.

I might have messed up a rule here or there, I'm not really sure, but being this drunk probably means all the blood in my body has been replaced with alcohol, and that I somehow learned how to absorb oxygen from alcohol instead of red bloodcells. Epic drunken master, lol.

Well... Uh... This kinda... Dang. Now that's something diffrent. Hmm... That seems like one of those things that not only come outa the blue, but some space hundreds of times past the blue and still way past "Nah, it's just my imagination." and "That's not physically possible!!!"

Anyways, I must congratulate you on that.
Fallenangel359

The dm thought it would be some epic battle that would make us retreat, and then lolth taking over my body would make me be put out of the fight till I rolled a nat 20 on a will save, or lolth decided not to use me any more. No, its "screw you, we are both going into comas"
Fallenangel359

06-04-07, 12:23 PM
I just realized a problem with this. She doesn't regenerate 1 ability score per day, she handles 1 drink every hour.

Still, as long as that ring was on, she handle alcohol at all.

With the ring off, she'd recover in 916 years. With the ring on, permanently comatose, and its a ring of sustenence. I think I need to raise my int score... This can put me in a permanent coma. Dispell magic that beats d20+13 actually can screw me up...

Heh... well my int went to -4, and my wisdom went to a +4... does that mean I was semi aware of my enviroment but not intelligent enough to do anything about it?

If I got a +5 book of intelligence... it would be like "hmm, I'm not unconcious, but any demon spider biatch possessing my body will be dead. Sweet."

Truly hilarous. But shouldn't this amount of drink make Your character easily combustible ? :)

And I'm afriad that ability can go down max to 0, wich means that Llolth would recover from this terminal hangover in a day, and would start talkingand thinking at all on sixth day. When her Int and Wis would reach 3 each. ;)

But You said that You got this funky Ring of Sustenanced Drunkeness. Poor spider-girl. There is no love for poor demons.

How Your character looks with "secondary femine features" and spider parts now ? :D
Geraturatu

06-04-07, 05:19 PM
Actually, if you officially have the ability score, it can go below zero, it just takes longer to recover. Thus why people in comas are in them so long.

Well what happened was the group dogpilled her, and her head was cut to pieces. Garl glittergold managed to walk by (we had multiple interactions with him by now, including one 15 minutes before this) and did a divine coup de grace to her, and stole her divine rank. Then to be fair, he gave divine rank 0 to the rest of the party.
The caster was about to take my ring off, to make me recover in 7 rounds, but then the cleric cast greater restoration on me... I opened my bar door(mordenkainens magnificent mansion, on a doorframe as an item, stumbled in, and passed out.) The caster dragged me up the stairs, and threw me on a bed. When I woke up, the cleric was about to greater restore me again, because I was going nuts, and I did a willsave to negate. I then punched him in the face. Wheee.

So to sum everything up, the DM played Lolth so stupidly that she was killed by low epic characters, and as a result of DM fiat, your party got DvR 0.

What an amazing story. [/sarcasm]

I'm sort of dubious on this one too, to be honest. She lost her divine immunities because she switched bodies? That doesn't seem to make sense...but still more sense than using such a dangerous tactic in the first place. Why would a creature of 30+ Int do such a thing? And why would her mind be affected by alcohol in your body? Or even located in her 'head'?

I'm sort of with Bluemage, the god was played really dumb here. I mean, when does Lolth use the tactic of 'switch heads with a drunk guy' anyways?

But if you guys had fun, kudos.

well... she couldn't do any spells or anything, because she took 391 damage from me, the last round... so with her auto success of 102 concentration, still won't beat the dc 401 conc check to cast a spell

So its alter reality... she decided to take me out of the fight (she didn't even know I was drunk. I never talked to her, and I still had high enough stats to not show up as such.)

She realized that physically, I was stronger than her, and she couldn't concentrate to cast a spell... so she steals my strength.

You guys take things too seriously, lol.

DR 0 doesn't even do much to my character... already had most immunities covered, lol

Damage taken in a previous round does not affect your ability to cast a spell in the following round.

So its alter reality... she decided to take me out of the fight (she didn't even know I was drunk. I never talked to her, and I still had high enough stats to not show up as such.)
If you're drunk, people notice. Especially people who have sense motive and spot at epic levels. She realized that physically, I was stronger than her, and she couldn't concentrate to cast a spell... so she steals my strength.

The smart thing to do when an enemy is weaker, and you're unable to fight back, is to run.
And Alter Reality can already replicate a lot of spells, as well.

We're annoyed when people come in saying "I'm so awesome - I killed a goddess!". It gives Epic Level a bad name.

it was supposed to be funny, jeez

humor?
ha ha?
note the lol in the name of the thread

She took 391 damage, and then it became her turn, that means for her to cast a spell, she has to make a concentration check = to 10+damage dealt since her last turn

That means she couldn't concentrate to cast the spell. At the time we were unaware that god were immune to dimensional anchor (we accidently missed that part of the book), and she was anchored already) (area effect version from an item) so she couldn't run without spending a standard action to alter that effect out of reality, atleast as far as we knew at the time. The dm also strongly dislikes the "gods are immune to mortal magic" rule, as that means unless you beat a god to death, you can't kill it, and that makes battles with the gods near impossible. Whos to say you can't get a god drunk?

I didn't beat her through damage, I didn't beat her through raawr brokenness. I beat her through wit. I came here to show a story, to get a couple laughs, and have a good time. Not to be "AHHH I SHOULD BE PRAISED". No, of course not.
I was wondering if anyone had any comments.

BTW, I moved this thread to the general boards, and for the most part, people liked it very much there.
Stop being so serious, have a drink, and laugh once in a while.

I'm gonna guess you are gonna respond with "I AM RELAXING GAAAH" and burst a vien from your forhead.

like whoa, lol

Perhaps you should realize, then, that the audience you have chosen to share your joke with is not particularly appreciative of your brand of humor.

I personally get tired of people who have a low opinion of epic as a place for munchkins who don't understand the rules. Unfortunately, posts lke yours perpetuate that notion and are thus harmful to the rest us.

I hope every day that WotC will decide to put up new epic support, but as long as posts like yours bring down the estimation of epic in the rest of the community, it won't happen. So if it seems as if I'm being a bit harsh, I apologize, but I don't like these kinds of "jokes".

Heck, far from giving Epic a bad name, this is the kind of stuff we need a bit more of. Not necessarily killing off the whole pantheon, but something like being so inebriated that a god would pass out. Legendary stuff that wouldn't have even been an option before, not just the same stories with bigger numbers.

And while in many settings a deity wouldn't be this easily slain, in others they would. Where you choose to put your deities on the power scale is a setting decision, and in a setting where they are merely legendarily powerful as opposed to omnipotent, eventually being able to defeat one is appropriate.

Frankly, Epic seems to have a bit of an identity crisis sometimes - some of the monsters and adventure ideas suggest that you'd be taking on challenges at a whole new level of existance, going fundamentally beyond what you could previously do - defeating death, changing history, taking on planar rulers, and so forth.

But then other stuff, like most of the feats and class progressions, and some monsters, suggest that you'd be adventuring pretty much the same way you always did, just against tougher challenges. So instead of raiding the swamp fort of the Ogre chief for the stolen crown of the duke, you'd be raiding the abyssal adamantine tower of the Paragon Demon Trolls for the stolen artifact crown of the divine overduke.

And it seems somewhat pointless to me just to expand the numbers without changing the frame. So while I don't think you need to be overthrowning pantheons before teatime and ruling a dozen planes, I do think that stuff like outdrinking a god can be a good thing.

She took 391 damage, and then it became her turn, that means for her to cast a spell, she has to make a concentration check = to 10+damage dealt since her last turn

Unless you had a Readied action to interrupt her spellcasting, those aren't the rules.

Generally, if you cast a spell, you provoke attacks of opportunity from threatening enemies. If you take damage from an attack of opportunity, you must make a Concentration check (DC 10 + points of damage taken + spell level) or lose the spell.

Also see here: http://www.d20srd.org/srd/skills/concentration.htm

The damage has to be done while in the act of casting a spell, which in turn would mean that she can't change and do another action as a result of knowing she got hit for 391 damage.

Aside from that, I have no problem with the story premise. Gods are notoriously getting drunk in mythology, and they should in DND too. I figure anyone playing a Drunken Master is playing a loose, somewhat silly game anyway.... ;)

What you say is fine and good. What bugs me is the way that Lolth is played as a moron, and that a poster would come to show off their lack of knowledge and use of DM fiat to accomplish "epic" tasks. If instead the story was of an epic battle fought reasonably well, I would have applauded it.

Don't be harsh on the man. He just wanted to share with us something that happened in the campaign his DM was running. It's up to the DM to bend the rules to fit how they think it should work. And it is pretty humorous, so he doesn't need you to jump all over him when he was sharing something like that. :ahem:

Tsk, tsk. Not everything could be as You want it to be. Fallenangel359 shared a small and hilarous-looking portion of his party's combat with Llolth. And said that it was it that secured their victory.

Similiarity I can see here when there is charity concert to be by some pop stars, but reporter cut off everything and left only incident with a naked guy painted blue who protested against the donkey discrimiation before being kicked out by security. Concert went on for 3 hours, but everybody frothed over 20 seconds with the naked moron.

Thus, please ... ask questions before shooting. :P

Theres no reason to be hostile here people. Tis was just for fun. Game, remember?

Ironically this is VERY similar to the way Lloth was killed in the second Justicar book. I believe it was an unending bottle of super high proof faeri wine in that case though.

In any case, there's nothing saying DnD has to be serious all the time. Drama oriented games are cool, but comedy oriented ones are cool to and IMO the are highly under rated. Further, I think epic is an especially appropriate place for comedy.

Silly amounts of power mean silly things happen. And there's nothing wrong with silly amounts of power.

Dude Great post! I had a lot of fun reading it. I've been playing for several years now, and have dabbled in an epic game. Seriously people dont bash a post like this because they fudged a couple rules and arent being "serious" This is an RPG none of which means OMG LETS GET MAD AT SOMEONE WHO HAD FUN INSTEAD OF BEING ALL HARDCORE. Its a roleplaying game. Roleplaying and game both imply having fun not fussing over bent or broken rules. Plus, Its not like you were playing in that campaign, sometimes DMs may make stupid choices, but then, so do gods...Lolth taking over his body? I can see that happening, That sounds like something a god of chaos would enjoy. And yeah, gods get intoxicated all the time, so I'm not surprised that that tactic managed to work.

Kudos for the great story, that is the kind of thing that makes players and DMs want to keep playing.
