Looking to make an epic spell [Archive] - Wizards Community

I am hoping to make an epic spell to aid in overcoming spell resistance.

I'm thinking that the Fortify seed might do it...cast the spell on yourself to boost the power of your own magic.

Since I plan on using the spell daily, I don't want any expensive components, exp hits, or backlash damage. The Fortify casting time of a minute, in conjuntion with the standard duration of a day, works nicely.

Can this be done? I'm limited to DC 50 if I'm to do it this level, which I want to.

What can people come up with?

(I've never done an epic spell before)

Seed: Afflict
Enchantment (Compulsion) [Fear, Mind-Affecting]
Spellcraft DC: 14
Components: V, S
Casting Time: 1 standard action
Range: 300 ft.
Target: One living creature
Duration: 20 minutes
Saving Throw: Will negates
Spell Resistance: Yes

Afflicts the target with a -2 morale penalty on attack rolls, checks, and saving throws. For each additional -1 penalty assessed on either the target’s attack rolls, checks, or saving throws, increase the Spellcraft DC by +2. A character may also develop a spell with this seed that afflicts the target with a -1 penalty on caster level checks, a -1 penalty to an ability score, a -1 penalty to spell resistance, or a -1 penalty to some other aspect of the target. For each additional -1 penalty assessed in one of the above categories, increase the Spell-craft DC by +4. This seed can afflict a character’s ability scores to the point where they reach 0, except for Constitution where 1 is the minimum. If a factor is applied to increase the duration of this seed, ability score penalties instead become temporary ability damage. If a factor is applied to make the duration permanent, any ability score penalties become permanent ability drain. Finally, by increasing the Spellcraft DC by +2, one of the target’s senses can be afflicted: sight, smell, hearing, taste, touch, or a special sense the target possesses. If the target fails its saving throw, the sense selected doesn’t function for the spell’s duration, with all attendant penalties that apply for losing the specified sense.

Do that.

The Afflict Seed won't help with an all-day boost to caster level like the OP wants. It only targets one (or more, if you add the factor) creature and must be cast, and break SR -itself- before working. The easiest way to do what you're looking for, that I can see, is to use a 'custom seed', using the Assay Resistance spell (from the Complete Arcane) as a base. The seed should have a DC of about 21 (using the Behind the Curtain sidebar for Epic Spell Seed DCs), and then you can apply factors to modify it from there. Perhaps a large Ad Hoc factor to allow changing of the focus of the spell as a move action, the obvious Increase Duration factor, and a +X/point increase of caster level factor, similar to the one in the big Factor list.

Developing Epic Spells is an art. As long as you can convince the DM of your logic and why your numbers make sense, he should be willing to meet you halfway and help modify your ad hoc numbers to better suit.

Or you could just ad hoc the Fortify seed. A bonus to break through SR seems plenty reasonable to me. If DC 50 is the limit, you should be able to get at least +6 to +10.

You say not to use Afflict, but Assay Resistance works the same way - it only affects you against a single creature. The difference is that you first have to get the Afflict through, then you will be able to have the desired effect of reducing SR.

Well, Assay Resistance only affects -you-, and allows no saving through or SR from your enemy, since its not targeting them at all. That's a big plus. That's why I said add in an 'ad hoc' factor that lets you change the focus creature of the spell as, say, a move action, or a standard action.
