Hey everyone, It's good to be back.

So while I was on break for several months I discovered something I thought was very scary. Based on my discovery, I've come up with a challenge for you guys here on the epics board. I want to see who can come up with the highest damage potential in 2 rounds.

There are no restrictions on class, race etc, except you must be ecl 40.

Good luck, and have fun trying to beat me :smirk:

Simple, I'm the DM so anything you can do I can do with +1 damage!

Infinite. Anything you can come up with, I'll link you to a better result achieved at level 20.

Pun-Pun needs just level 6. (I think it might have been done at level 2, but haven't seen that.)

Level 1, is what I hear. Something about max ranks in Kn:Religion to summon some dude and ask for a candle to summon a Djinn or something. Doesn't even need to be a Kobold anymore either. But he still is. Just cause it's nostalgic.

Here's a relatively simple trick. (http://forums.gleemax.com/showthread.php?t=855878) Seriously, look at the Theoretical Optimization Board. They've done infinite damage several times. It's out of style now.

That's the one I was thinking of - Aura of Chaos, with the Luck feat that lets you treat 1's as 2's, and a d2 weapon. You roll for damage, but always make it 2, and that triggers Aura of Chaos, allowing you to repeat, the damage roll infinitely.

Actually looking for intentional max damage with ECL 40 is different. There really are so many loopholes and combinations to send damage through the stratosphere.

Level 1 actually.

I've heard a lot of arguments about that combo. Since 1's are always treated as 2's, I dont think you actually need to roll any dice, and since you dont roll anything, the combo doesnt work. AFAIK.

Yeah, it's more interesting to set finite damage records. (Not that I've ever done so, but it's fun to watch.) I understand that the current record (I'm not sure if it's one-round or one-hit) requires Knuth's up-arrow notation (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Knuth's_up-arrow_notation) to write.

Does the fact that you know the result really mean that you don't need to roll the dice?

Yes, but from what I remember, it's maddeningly complex. I bet you could do some crazy stuff with the Locate City bomb at these levels.

Nowhere in the rules does it say that you don't roll you 1d2 damage when you treat all 1's as 2's. You still roll, you just treat the ones as 2s. Again, it is a rules lawyery, careless writing, careless DMing issue only. I certainly wouldn't allow it. But how many times do we get people arguing that something is RAW and that makes it right? ;)

And how many people actually try using (nigh-)infinite damage loops, unlimited wishes or even worse stuff, like Artificers (I actually play one), in normal games?

There's still debate over whether the Locate City bomb even works, specifically regarding whether its area is one of those that qualifies for the Explosive Spell feat.

OK, so you guys all beat me, but what I had in mind was taking the chargeable fireball(afb atm so can't give exact name, in PHB2 I believe) and applying the following metamagic feats to it:Energy Substitution(electricity), Born of Three Thunders, Energy Admixture, Intesnify Spell, that epic feat that increases damage dice by 10, and taking the feat that allows you to lower the spell level modification from metamagic. Came out to several thousand damage, but your stunned for the following round, and probably everything in the blast radius also.....

Quite unsurprising that Theoretical Optimization board had something that beat you. After all, it is the home of most broken cheese ever. You had a nice idea there though.

What, no Twin?

If you have uncapped elemental damage, you can get 4xCL damage in a round with a single spell quite easily.

... are there any uncapped elemental spells?

Maw of Chaos (SpC) isn't elemental, but I do believe it's uncapped. That's a nasty spell to have more of.

Obedient Avalanche.

MoC is awesome, but it does zilch against Fiends, Eladrin, Slaad etc.

I believe cometfall from CD is uncapped as well, but it does physical damage.

That was reprinted in Spell Compendium to cap at 20d6. There's always Explosive Born of the Three Thunders Widened Apocalypse from the Sky...
