I am currently playing an 18th wizard who needs to make a flying island similar to that seen with the Proctiv’s move mountain spell. However, being 18th level means that this is outside of his league.

Therefore, I was wondering, is it possible to create an epic level spell that he could research later in his career which could manifest in the past, meaning that it would effectively happen at the current point in the game?

Thanks for your help

Well... yes, it's quite possible, but if your DM allows it, is another matter entierly. It would sorta be "but what if I don't? I already have it..."if you agreed to pull off the exp here and now, I would probably allow it, unless your gonna use that flying island for something else than just a HQ.

I'm having flashbacks to Bill and Ted,

See how your DM feels about incantations.

I'd think that if your DM were to allow you to move mountains like Proctiv, he'd sooner let you research a non epic spell and do it now rather than the other way. There's nothing that epic spellcasting can do that regular spells can't also do--it just requires the DM's okay, just as epic spellcasting does. It's really just a matter of if and what level your DM thinks that moving mountains is appropriate for you.

You might try to accomplish this by making it a ritual of sorts... have like 100day casting time, 9 18th level casters contribute to the spell slots of the spell, some 8th level slots etc, and see if your DM will just buy off on it (its not terribly different at that point from an epic version).

Add in some ritual sacrifice and i'd let a player do that any day!

As a DM, i'm usually prone to giving the party a semi-mobile HQ reasonably early on, anyway, so my opinion is a little too bias now isn't it?!
