| The Tinkerer12-22-07, 06:25 PM | Is there any official ruling on the Epic Progression for the Binder? Our group is getting close to the end of the Age of Worms and I'm not sure what to do with my character from this point on since the GM has dropped hints that he has more in store for us. Binder 19/ Knight of the Sacred Seal 1 (Zerycl) Effective Binder Level 20 I've been focusing on Party Support, specifically using my summons to maintain the health and sanity of the party. |
| Pitiless_Interfector12-23-07, 05:46 PM | I'd say just grant a bonus feat every 3 levels after 20th (23rd, 26th, 29th, etc.), possibly with pact augmentation increasing at 24th, 28th, 32nd, and every 4th level thereafter. Of course, you'd need some worthwhile epic feats to pull it off: Multifarious Binding (Epic) You can bind an additional vestige. Prerequisites: Knowledge (arcana) 24 ranks, soul binding (4 vestiges) Benefit: You can bind up to 5 vestiges at a time. Special: You can take this feat multiple times. Each time you take it, you can bind an additional vestige simultaneously. Pactmaker Savant (Epic) You can make pacts with vestiges with surpassing skill. Prerequisites: Knowledge (arcana) 24 ranks, Skilled Pact Making Benefit: You receive a +6 bonus on binding checks. This stacks with the +4 bonus from Skilled Pact Making. Greater Vestige Focus (Epic) You can make even more specialized pacts with your favored vestige. Prerequisites: Knowledge (arcana) 24 ranks, Favored Vestige Focus Benefit: The DC adjustment of the Favored Vestige Focus feat improves to +2 with one specific vestige. Special: This feat can be taken multiple times (though only once for each vestige). Adept Expelliate (Epic) You can expel useless vestiges with no fear. Prerequisites: Knowledge (arcana) 24 ranks, Intimidate 16 ranks, Expel Vestige. Benefit: You can expel a vestige without suffering any penalty on subsequent binding checks. In addition, you can expel a vestige twice per day. Special: You can take this feat multiple times. Each time you take this feat, you can expel a vestige one additional time per day. Instant Pact (Epic) You can rebind vestiges extremely rapidly. Prerequisites: Knowledge (arcana) 24 ranks, Intimidate 24 ranks, Expel Vestige, Rapid Pact Making Benefit: You may use the Rapid Pact Making feat an unlimited number of times each day. Improved Ability Focus (Epic) You can enhance an ability to a greater degree. Prerequisite: Special attack, Sudden Ability Focus Benefit: Whenever you employ the Sudden Ability Focus feat, the ability's DC increases by 4 rather than 2. Lemegeton Hierarch (Epic) You have mastered the secrets of Syfal, the first binder. Prerequisites: Knowledge (arcana) 24 ranks, Favored Vestige; see below Benefit: Choose a single ability offered by your favored vestige and any one of the following feats you know: Empower Supernatural Ability, Enlarge Supernatural Ability, Extend Supernatural Ability, or Widen Supernatural Ability. Any use of that particular vestige ability automatically benefits from a single application of the chosen feat, without counting against that feat's daily use limit. Special: You can take this feat more than once. It does not stack. Each time you do, it applies to a different ability, either from the same vestige or a different one. |
| EmissaryofRagnarok12-25-07, 11:30 AM | This is a great reference tool for Binders, without doubt. My only thoughts for epic progression is the idea that there should be a couple epic vestiges, if only to compete with epic spells. Granted, binding times would grow exponentioally, or require multiple Binders to manifest such powerful entities, but it would add some potency to the class beyond twentieth level. |

Here are a few (and if you want to know more about the origins of the vestiges, you should check out The Lesser Key of Solomon (http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Lesser_Key_of_Solomon)): Archailect of the Heptameron [Epic] You can consort with entities of great and terrible power. Prerequisites: Effective binder level 21st, ability to bind 8th-level vestiges, Knowledge (arcana) 24 ranks Benefit: You can summon and bind epic-level vestiges, just as if they were of a level you could ordinarily bind. Special: If you fail the binding check by 5 or more when trying to bind an epic vestige, the binding attempt fails completely, and you may not attempt to rebind it until 24 hours have passed. Thanks to WotC making Orthos non-epic, it's difficult to up the awe factor any further. I'll be back to refine the Legend and Manifestation in the not-too-distant future. Thyrsus the Silent Vestige Level: Epic (effectively 9th) Binding DC: 45 Special Requirement: Yes Legend: Thyrsus is a being that does not exist, has never existed, and never will exist. Of course, that doesn't stop him from existing. Manifestation: A mini-Sauron eye (but with prismatic colors coruscating over it and a diamond iris) winks into being over the seal. Any communication is empathic in nature but can be picked up by anyone with line of sight to the seal. Sign: Your jaw clamps shut, making it impossible to speak. Influence: The Silent demands that you do not communicate with any creature by any means more complicated than simple gestures. This rules out telepathy as well (though not empathic communication, such as that between a master and a familiar, or a dominated creature whose language you don't speak). Special Requirement: Thyrsus requires you draw his seal large enough to fit a Huge creature (15 feet in diameter). Vestige Granted Abilities: Disintegrating Ray: You can fire a pair of energy rays from your eyes that disintegrate whatever they touch. This ability functions like a disintegrate spell (effective caster level equal to your binder level), but affected by the Split Ray metamagic feat and with no maximum cap on damage (though a Fortitude save reduces this to 5d6 as normal). Once you have used this ability, you cannot do so again for 5 rounds. Flight: You can fly at a speed of 60 feet, with perfect maneuverability. Spell Resistance: You gain Spell Resistance 11 + your effective binder level. |
| The Tinkerer12-30-07, 12:01 PM | These look great but I have a question about one of the requirments. Up until this point knowledge arcana has had nothing at all to do with binding things, so why would these automatically require max ranks in it? I would think perhaps Intimidate or Knowledge History would be a better fit. As knowledge history is the skill required to identify binders in general, and intimidate is the required skill for Improved Binding. |
