1. Does the death throes of a Balor effect other balors? or are they immune to death throes of their own kind?

2. Does the epic weapon ability of "Dread" on a critical hit turn a balor to dust before their death throes comes into effect, or does the death throes still happen.

Good Questions - I'm not sure the answers are spelled out. IMO - other Balors would be immune to the Death Throes of another Balor. The explosion is more of an Abyssal Chaos thing - again not stated, but kind of implied. Second - the Bane affect does turn to dust, so Yes I agree with you that it would eliminate the death throes affect from happening. Sorry I don't have anything to back up my post, but that's how I'd view it.

I agree and disagree. I feel to lazy to check the energy type (if any) of the balor's death throes versus demonic immunities.

I'd say that it's up to the DM if they want the balor's to be immune or not. If they are, then they don't have to worry about killing other balors in melee, if they aren't, they would want to keep distance when trying to kill oneanother.

As for the second question: I'd say no. The explosion would still happen. Just as their body turns to dust it would unleash the chaotic death energies of the death throes, just as if you had landed a killing blow or disintigrated them.

The Balor is not immune to other Balor's Death Throes. It is statted as an explosion of light, with no energy descriptor, and not being a spell, there is no way to be immune to it short of Evasion and a good Reflex save. This may seem to be a pain for coordinated Balor attacks, but Balors are not supposed to work together. They don't like sharing the glory, nor do they want to get beat down right after they win a battle by a backstabbing equal. Bad enough they have to worry about underlings.

However, this does make Epic Battles with multiple Balors kind of wonky, but they just have to keep their distance. They all know about it. Some people talk about setting up a chain of exploding Balors this way - don't let them do it. Unless the Balors are fighting in close quarters (which they never, ever, should) the PCs won't be able to do it anyway.

As for the second question, turned to dust or not, when they die - they explode. This means that a Summoned Balor would not explode, but a Called one would, whether you kill it with Destruction, Implosion, Disintegrate, or a Dread weapon. Dead is dead and Death Throes takes effect.
