| WombleHunter08-02-07, 08:17 PM | I've got a triad of new questions for you, about deity creation: When creating your own deities: 1. The SRD says that if a deity has a divine spellcasting class, it can cast all spells from the class spontaneously. Does this mean a deity wishing to cast a divine spell with a metamagic feat applied to it must spend a full-round action to do so, like a Sorcerer? 2. What do Automatic Actions do in the context of 3.5? I'm confused as to their intent and application. 3. Other than SDAs, is there any provision for a deity to be immune to elements of its own portfolio? Specifically, I'm looking at a sun-god being immune to spells like Sunburst and other light effects - is there a way to achieve this with divine powers, Epic feats, or similar? Hope you guys can help me! :) |

Automatic actions reduce the time needed to perform a skill check or ability check related to the god's portfolio to a free action. They can also perform multiple free actions. 3. SDAs seem to be it, other than obvious things like Spell Immunity. |

I post it here and bam! Seems like hte right choice to me ;). 2. Automatic actions reduce the time needed to perform a skill check or ability check related to the god's portfolio to a free action. They can also perform multiple free actions.Mmm. Is there any guidance on what can be selected to become an Automatic Action? Hypothetically, could a deity of War choose "melee attacks" for his/her Automatic Actions? Could a deity of magic choose "spellcasting"? Or is it only skill/ability checks - if so, this seems kind of redundant, since many skill checks (and nearly all ability checks) are reactive or free actions already. Alternatively, what about skill checks that are part of another action? If a deity has Automatic Actions: Jump, do they gain extra movement by jumping in a round, or is this an improper use of the ability? The SRD offers precious little on this that I could see... :( 3. SDAs seem to be it, other than obvious things like Spell Immunity.Hmm. I'll talk it over and see whether a custom SDA is required. Thanks! 1. I would allow them to prepare a spell with a metamagic feat attached to it so that they don't have to increase the casting time. That makes sense - no point in a deity losing their preparation spellcasting - that's just counterintuitive. Or I could just give the deity the Rapid Metamagic feat (Complete Mage) ;). |

As far as actions and Automatic Actions go, I think they're also free actions. So, in the case of Jump, you could jump as far as the maximum DC allowed. |
