Stupid Epic Spellcasting Question [Archive] - Wizards Community

09-11-07, 12:09 AM yes I know Epic Spellcasting either is, or has the potential to be horribly, horribly broken, but in a fit of boredom I've been toying with several ideas. and well the gist of my question is: with the proper feats(like the Shadowmaster one and well there's another but I can't rember it's name offhand, but it'll allow the casting of powerword: stun, blind and kill) will a Warlock qualify for the Epic Spellcasting feat? I realize the answer is likely no as he's casting SLA's as opposed to actual spells, but....

09-11-07, 01:03 AM To the best of my knowledge no, as it requires the ability to cast 9th level spells instead of use 9th level SLA's.

Yes, there was. SLAs don't count as spells for qualification purposes.

09-11-07, 11:16 AM it works in the case of casting a specific spell generally. like casting the Charm invocation to qual for the Mindbender PrC. but yeah generally if it's case of say "able to cast 2nd lvl arcane spells" then no, SLA's dn'na quallify.

and SIGH, was afraid that I was grasping at straws here. being able to cast Epic Spells woulda been sooo nice here but pity, tis not to be apparently.

09-11-07, 08:37 PM I recall seeing a thread on the CO Boards that had a trick involving some PrC from Dragonmarked to convert SLAs into actual spells. Check that out if you can find it. Technically, you should be able to get Epic Spellcasting with that.

09-18-07, 12:42 PM Nosomatic Chirurgeon is that class. You'll also need Heighten Spell to actually get a 9th level 'Inflict' spell out of it.

in short: no. In the warlock base class it says that the warlock may qualify for ANY feat of the magical variety as long as it fulfills both of these conditions:
IF the feat, prc, whatever doesnt specify a caster type (arcane, divine, etc) then a warlock can take it.
IF a feat, prc, whatever doesn't specify a spell level type (1st level arcane, 1st level divine etc)

09-19-07, 01:41 PM yeah, was slowly comeing to that conclusion anyway. the closest to swinging this that a warlock get's is dark foresight and while considered equivilant of a 9th lvl spell, is a SLA. which is kinda sad really cause even with the potential for horrible, horrible brokeness haveing access to Epic Spellcasting would be a HUGE boon to a Warlock.

and ironically the even more aneimic class the Shadowcaster with it's odd system however DOES qualify for Epic Spellcasting as it casts both SLA's _&_ Spells.

11-07-07, 05:51 PM Everyone is right, no warlock epic spells, however invocations could be allowed if the DM allows it. They could be constructed the same way and be used just the same or you may be able to get several lower level, yet at will, invocations (like a fireball effect, lightning bolt, or the like at will)
